Thats gonna be worth a few tenths. They won't want to fundamentally change the car characteristics on the tyres too much - otherwise much of the data they've collected in testing to date is at best partially relevant, at worst, completely irrelevant.Maelstrom wrote:Hamilton said that in Jerez. OK. Square that declaration with the times they are putting in and then wonder why he said that.Maelstrom wrote: Hamilton also said that he now thinks they can win a race in this car later on in this year, when he had said earlier that he didn't think they would be expecting to win.
Okay, great, so that's a few tenths over a car with "less downforce than the MP4-27", given that the MP4-28 is also a car with "less downforce than the MP4-28" it's reasonable to assume that they now have a few tenths over the launch spec MP4-28.kilcoo316 wrote:Thats gonna be worth a few tenths. Huh? Putting in quick times, showing little degradation, and saying "I think we stand a chance of winning" are not consistent now?OK. Low speed sliding heats and wears the tyre - but not to the same amount as high speed sliding.FoxHound wrote:Every trackside pundit mentions Ferrari's unstable nature and inability to keep traction in slower corners.
Last years car being significantly off the pace and burning through tyres, a publicised lack of downforce relative to other benchmarks, cold temperatures at the test and quick lap times after one warmup lap. Pretty sure Gary Anderson did mention the Merc sliding around a little a couple of days ago as well.FoxHound wrote: Now for the first time I read this morning(After Rosbergs 1:20.1) that Merc "is probably sliding around a bit more than the rest".
Can you please explain why? And how you reached this conclusion.
Look... maybe the Merc will not be in the top 3 or even 4. That's a discussion for later. If you're proven right, good for you. Right now we are discussing data from testing and what it could mean. You have no facts and only opinions. The fact is that Merc is looking good. There is no noticable tyre degradation (atleast not any more than the other teams). It's fast and consistent. Jensen Button & Alonso have said it looks like a good car. Hamilton looks happy with it. What facts are you arguing with?kilcoo316 wrote:Thats gonna be worth a few tenths. Not knowing if the fast laps are followed up with 4-5 laps after is the worst part.f1316 wrote:Anybody else extremely frustrated with lack of live timing? I saw the earlier suggested alternative, but it's not quite the same; any other suggestions?
Winning later in the year.beelsebob wrote:Okay, great, so that's a few tenths over a car with "less downforce than the MP4-27".
The MP4-27 was the guts of 1-2 seconds quicker than the Merc last year. Do you really comprehend the magnitude of that difference?

Lol, if there is one team that concentrated on the long run-pace, it is Mercedes. Complete bullshit.rssh wrote:I have been quietly following the testing this year and I really don't wanna doubt but why is Merc concentrating on low fuel runs ,is there full fuel pace already excellent ?
I can see team like Lotus and Ferrari go for a short stints and 1 lap performance because there long run pace was decent in 2012 and with the rule stability the change shouldn't be that drastic .
I think Merc is creating a hype (kind of on track PR) just like Williams did in 2011 testing when they were going for stock flotation . I just hope that Merc is really kinder to the rear tyres this season and give Rosberg the chance which he deserves (I am no L H fan).
Yeah it's bad, I can bitch all day that times mean little without reference points but when f1tests.info is gone for one day it's a disasterf1316 wrote:Anybody else extremely frustrated with lack of live timing? And I'm telling you that going very quickly on a cold day could mean they are putting too much heat into their tyres - which will be to their detriment in the mid-summer when track temperatures are much higher.Maelstrom wrote:Right now we are discussing data from testing and what it could mean.
Indeed - they know well what their problem area was last year - and have (absolutely correctly) concentrated efforts on that.Mika1 wrote:Lol, if there is one team that concentrated on the long run-pace, it is Mercedes. Complete bullshit.
You really think Hamilton was going to say more than he already did? I saw an interview of him recently and he was grinning mightily and repeatedly saying that he 'probably shouldn't say anything more.'kilcoo316 wrote:Winning later in the year.beelsebob wrote:Okay, great, so that's a few tenths over a car with "less downforce than the MP4-27".

All is not as it seems on first glance. Hamilton fully recognises that. To be honest, I had expected most people on this forum to recognise it too.
