Earnard Beccelstone wrote:Some observations on P1 and P2. Apologies for wall of text

I was sitting at turns 11/22 for FP1 and a combination of 1/2, 13 and 14 for FP2, so got to see a mix of high-ish and medium speed turns and some decent braking.

These are basically in order of relative speed
Thank you for this lovely report.

I know is off topic but this thread has not option to place a vote on comments as others do.
Some members has posted great post and observations from the track like Earnard Beccelstone and I can't give them a vote as I would like. Can be fixed?
Cheers, as always thank you for the forum and the administrators great work.

Wow, Mclaren in deep trouble
A difficult car to extract speed from? Sounds like the sort of car Lewis used to make work for him...

Sorry Mods, couldn't resist!

Mclaren is probably facing the same problem as ferrari last year. I am sure with their huge resourcing at MTC, they will be able to sort it out after a few races.

the onboard telemtry is glitched. They're using it on start/finish and betwen turn 3/4.

Few more thing i've noticed in alonso's and vettel's onboard. Either red bull is heavy on fuel, or its really dragy. Their acceleration is simply pathetic compared to ferrari. You can see alonso is 10kph faster before every braking zone. Red bull does seem a lot more planted and stable in the corners and carries more speed trough them. Minium speed trough 11-12 chicane is 209 kmh for alonso as 219 kmh for vettel.

Even he used DRS, Vettel only managed 302km/h on the straight line, less then 12km/h of Ham & other Mercedes powered cars were doing. Same philosophy like past years or they could prepare for a wet setup in mind?

And other forum there are rumors saying that Paul Hembery said that if Sunday will be dry but around 15 degree Celsius we could face a minimum 4 stopper race (compared to a predicted 3 stopper), due to fairly high tyre graining issues ...

Vettel didnt use whole lap DRS. DRS icon was "broken", you can see others onboard videos drivers, it's same.
Use it or not use it [DRS] Red Bull is fastest, get over it.

I don't think its so much as the Red Bull has bad acceleration as it is that the Ferrari has massive acceleration.

The first onboard I watched during the live feed on SkyF1, I was instantly wowed at the rate the Ferrari was picking up revs on corner exit, even though it looked a bit tentative on turn in.

If he had used DRS the whole lap, there would be news articles about his massive grid penalty.

he couldn't have used DRS anywhere outside 2 designated zones. Outside of them it is disabled, just like in race

Do they have the DRS button on wheel? Or do they have it foot activated like Ferrari? If it is on wheel just watch the video again and focus on his hands.

Where could I get all the laptimes for FP1 and FP2 for all drivers? Last season the FIA website had them but can't find them with the new format.
