Ferrari F138

Or it could be related with the ambient temperature, may be Ferrari were trying to cool the driver as well as trying to channel the air somewhere else [like energize the flow within the rads or direct them to the vertical rad] but due to the low temp [comparing with the hot track like Sepang or Abu Dhabi or Bahrain] or may be due to some problem they cannot work it up.

Hope they are just gathering data for cooling solution of future races, or it might be marked as another correlation issue [-o<
goran2812 wrote:how did they close that duct on the chassis? By the looks of it, this is a new tub with no hole on the front... strange... Wouldn't there be some signs of the closed hole? o.O
I dont think its a big problem caz they can virtually change the whole tub and all the pieces within 4 hour IIRC, but the problem is that you have to have a tub for this and by looking at the pics we can say that Yes Ferrari has the tub with the closed hole, which literally means that they were prepared for the change ................. :)

This seems to be a massively drivable car, making it easy to get a laptime immediately. Look at how Alonso's 2nd outlap was enough to jump Sutil and Vettel at once. Fantastic consistency and race pace.

So, upgrades. We saw the new upper fin on the front brake ducts and the absence of the so called shark mouth. Anyone notice something else different? I am not sure but I think the lower half of the sidepod turning vanes is different. Has anyone got a good pic of that?
Amou i think you are right, look how the turning vane are twisted toward the inner side, from the second pic you could see that by yourself. Another things is they actually use the latest incarnation of the engine cover for the race. From the race IMHO that ferrari is doing grate job with the supersoft tyre and not so cool with the medium compound.

Ferrari F138 - chassis hole comparison

Arguably one of the most relevant technical stories in Melbourne was Ferrari's choice not to use the inlet in the F138's nose and chassis (see main drawing). The Australian track is not considered to be as aerodynamically demanding as other circuits. The inlet (see inset) they could have used is fairly large and located in the lower section of the chassis.

Hmm, I think they are the same (if we're talking about the same: the lower part of the tall vertical deflectors besides sidepods)

This is from testing:

A bunch of posts have been moved to the Australian GP thread as they were discussing the performance of this car at that event, along with race strategy.

Hence, may I remind you all that I understand the excitement ;) , but that the car threads (such as this one) are only to discuss the car's technical properties, nothing else please.

Hello fans, I'd like to ask a question, I've just read this news http://www.f1technical.net/development/396 and there is something that I do not understand, which is the statement below

"Altogether, it still is surprising to see Ferrari run a front wing without any bulges in the lower profile, something that is not seen on any other car at the moment."

Being honest, I haven't checked the whole forum, but if someone explains it in here, it would be highly appreciated, if someone explained it before, please let me know

thank you

The curve near the outlet is usde to house one of the front wing vortices: having a linear profile there suggests ferrari are trating this vortex differently, i.e. maybe trying to make it start a bit later, to infleunce its strength, postioning and duration.
The 7element front wing could be related to that: adding meore energy to the vortex some cm downstream

Re: Ferrari F138

It doesnt have that raised section because the whole main plane is raised, which is noticable by the bend down in the footplate.

Other teams have the leading edge of the mainplane in the lowest position allowed by the rules, and then have an upward sweep close to the end plates.

As promised, here is my footage of Filepe's Ferrari during Friday practice.

A very distinctive off throttle when compared to Fernando and the other teams.

Unfortunately i don't have any usable video to compare the different cars only with the Williams Renault, which was more representative of the rest of the fields behaviour.

Wow Robbobnob, thanks for sharing that video. Really Massa's Ferrari surely producing that very distinctive off throttle sound compared to others.
