Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The triangle-like thing on top of the side of the FW looks new. Isn't it?

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but I find it interesting that they use slits in the middle part of the FW and not in the outer. Anderson said that usually you use slits on the outer part to prevent separation where the AoA is the steepest. In order to maximise DF you don't want to use it in the middle. That's why he also criticised the Mercedes FW which has slits all along. I know he often writes nonsense but it's nevertheless interesting that ferrari does the opposite.

No, thats been there for some time, and that is not the newest spec wing. They tend to have the older front wing on the car on Thursday, and only put the latest wing on once the car is actually going to run. I assume that is to prevent damage from occurring to the best wing when the car is not on track.

the wing shown just above has a relatively low AOA/camber line, so it may not need slots to keep the flow from separating - unlike a higher down force wing with much more camber.

They have it on /off from 1999 I think: see here for example: http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/show.php?num=1047

Jokes aside, I think it is the first time they fit it this year; what I wanted to highlight is that it is a classic solution to exploit tha vortex that spills out of the front wing flap

Hey this vertical fin was there from the 1st race of 2012, that is AUS GP but jointed with the endplate but from the 2nd race that is MAL GP the fin has been on its own and cut-outed from the FW endplate.

That was my point - no monkey seat - which, to me means we don't need it =D>
