Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Not to sound terse, but to avoid the tit for tat, you don't know what you are talking about.

Show me the actual boundary layer in any of the articles you posted. Even the CFD ones. While you are doing it, tell me how high it is too.

As for the BMW, there was never an F1 car before it with that philosophy. Apparently the words "High nose" to you covers everything described as a high nose.
I suppose if i called the nose a "table top" or "surf board" you would change your mind and search the history of F1 for noses with same wording?
It's worrying how words suddenly are more powerful than diagrams and numbers. All this talk about boundary layer etc etc and not one image or measurement of it.
The whole reasoning behind the BMW nose flew over your head too.

Take an egg and punch a hole in it. Have a crash test with an egg with a hole in and one without a hole in it. Tell me which is stronger and which one if needs be can be made thinner and lighter.
Also reason out what would happen if a car has a very thin nose like the sauber; a crease basically as the leading edge. How small would the cooling hole be in that thin nose. Would the driver or electronics be cooled at all?

Is it best to have the cooling hole at the tip of the nose, messing with the flow from the start, or put the hole out of the way somewhere where it wont affect the flow over the nose and to the cockpit, like underneath and further back?

Just think about those things before you get into a war of words which you haven't taken the time to appreciate.
For Sure!!

Your lower purple line follows the floor line, rather than allowing for rake. This would/could make a difference?
All the bounding boxes of the car are specified relative to the reference plane (i.e. the floor), not to the ground. He is correct to make it follow the floor.
Thanks, I wasnt sure.

On gazzetta:

http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=6ed5oo&s=6 (via joseluis on twitter)
they comment on the "cables hanging from the broken pylons of the front wing and say they are part of a system to detect the stall fo the main wing profile.
I thinl they got it mostly right this time: The "cables" are pipes that connect to static pressure sensors. I think most teams use them (see for example rbr pictures last years).
Omnicorse instead put in an article on the same picture:
http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/26033/ ... -strappati
but say that stall detection could be a possible use, and say that it is a sign that ferrari is ahead in this technical theme - not considering that it should be quite a common installation in the last 5-6 years. I think they are a bit off the mark

Looks like this small front wing update may have gone unnoticed. It wasn't raced, but both drivers tested a version on Friday with a full span split upper flap:

I can't take credit for the find, someone on a ferrari forum (that you also belong to) pointed it out.

It seems that ferrari insider (user fabioc) on blogf1.it is back.
http://www.blogf1.it/2013/04/03/nessuna ... -red-bull/

There are some doubts from the other posters about his identity (the nickname is not exactly the same if I have understood correctly the comments) but what he writes is coherent with what that insider wrote before, i.e. point of view of an exhaust specialist. Be him or not, what he wirtes is interesting nontheless, i will try to summarize:

-no fia communications about t-tray was issued, so it seems that omnicorse.it source ("very close to the FIA") was misinterpreted
-the flexible t-tray advantage would be very little, since the whole simplified theory we have heard N times: "with ebd you can allow for greater rear ride height because you have hot gas skirts" is inaccurate. It seems that it goes the opposite way round: with ebd you have so much rear downforce that you have to lower the front ot compensate for it. (This is something worth discussing more even if from the post it does not seem this guy is an aerodynamicist) Rake is a trick to get a better overall balance
-mercedes is an example of using rake to balance better the car, because it has less downforce than the top three teams
-this year's ferrari seems well balanced and so does not need an extreme rake
-this years tyres have a more decisive role than ever
-for china ferrari will have just small upgrades
-new exhausts are ready, it is not sure if they will debut in china or in europe - marmorini is happy with them
-cables sticking from the nose in malaysia (see picture above) were for cameras and sensors

True insider? Exhaust specialist? I do not know, but i found what he wrote very interesting

Just want to add to your actually very good translation, he said that Ferrari will test several updates in China, some more visible then others, and we can expect to see changes at the front and rear of the car.
The other two users that have interesting posts sometimes,"Maxleon" and "ZioTure" seem to think this is the same Fabio C as before.
Do you feel you can beat the Red Bulls, either to pole position or the race itself?
Fernando Alonso: "I prefer to beat them on Sunday."

For a couple of days now, I've been thinking "What happened to that other exhaust concept Marmorini was talking about?" and was just about to ask if anyone has any info on it... Thanks for this.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

I was asking my self if, where and when Ferrari would have implemented their own DRD system, having in mind that it is still not very clear if theyr vertically mounted radiators are given a solution to theyr excessive drag problem
(top speeds looked great in Australia, compared to others by the way)

I never saw any pictures about it on this thread and finally i got myself into this one....

pic taken during the Malaysian weekend

is that duct from the extra top air intake going to power the DRD or is another extra cooling solution?

It currently is for cooling. But who knows if they later are going to use it for the DRD

this cooling duct for gearbox , they use it from last year . in this pic you see small radiator for gearbox cooling
