2013 Gold Colored ECU's

Post

hi guys .. i found an interesting picture of redbull racing pit garage at round 4 2013. The technician who is working on the right hand side livery has 2 control module next his feet. It has one red light and one blue light on both of the ECU's. I even noticed that mercedes F1 , Caterham F1 , Renault F1 , ferrari f1 , even mclaren f1 is also have these same module. Does anyone knows ...who makes them?

It could be KERS electronics, not ECU.

there is a very good chance that it can be a KERS electronic Module . But i saw magneti marelli's electronics onboard of on redbull racing.

Magneti Marelli offers wide range of products, finding them inside such a complicated beast as F1 car should not be surprising.

there is a huge offering from magneti marelli ... but I still can't see any ECU resembling to golden colored ECUs with red and blue lights on them.

There are typically different sub systems in an F1 car. Beside the MES SECU you also have the FiA telemetry sytem which is made by another supplier. There is also a separate telemetry for the teams, at least there used to be one in the old system from last year and there should be sub systems for various purposes such as steering wheels and energy management unless it is now integrated into the SECU. We do not know about the new structure, at least I have not seen a diagram of it. The old unit block diagram was published in the FiA call for tender when the SECU was introduced. Pity the new one is not.

you are right ......these days we all know who are making electronic components for formula 1 and motorsports. But I am amazed such a major supplier to formula 1 and motorsports and nobody knows about them.

hi ...nice pic marcush ...insightful... to be honest i am kind of leaning towards MOTEC ecu. That looks quite similar to tha t found on formula 1 cars. but somehow i am still hungry for more insight and finding more ECU supplier

I have found one :

EFI TECHNOLOGY Thes guys supplies to Ferrari F1 till date

and there is PI/Pectel /Cosworth

and Bosch Motorsports ..www.bosch-motorsport.de one of the few to actually publish all cost on their website...
