Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Anyway I think there's some changes to the splitter but not a lot else going on. If I wasn't so lazy I'd be looking at the rear suspension, I'll do a comparison after the race just in case anything was changed.

Well I'm surprised to see how good Merc' cooling solution is. I mean they are running with least slots and openings for cooling purpose compared to the others. Especially back of Engine cover.

Concerning packaging also one of the best cars out there. Yesterday I saw a closeup of the sidepod radiator inlets. They are the same size as the Sauber ones (although the sidepods in general are of course bulkier).

After 3 weeks working on race pace and spending the whole of practice on this, it is worrying signs. They need to find the cause of this, FRIC suspension is also used by Lotus, Ferrari have the same Coanda exhaust so its a mega head scratcher as to where the problems lay.

Doing nothing (like they always do) won't solve the problem. They should try to implement rbr's exhaust style ramp/tunnel.

They obviously don't understand points are gained on race not on qualy.

Why should they take a huge time to completely revamp the car to change it into something that has no obvious gain?

What else to do then when everybody knows their exhaust is causing more fuel load? Switch to 1.6l to be more fuel efficient?
They don't have too many options. They changed the suspension geometry this weekend and guess what? Situation is worse than Bahrain.

Seriously?
How does changing your exhaust style to something that has no obvious gain helps with fuel consumption? And not only that, this fuel consumption thingy you named, I never read about it on Mercedes side. Lotus stated that they had increased fuel consumption when they introduced it last year and fixed that mostly by engine mappings. And that essentially is the same for everyone.

Just because you had one sucky race doesnt mean you have to get all desperate as a team.

The W04 tyre degradation/race pace is getting worst all the time, they were decent back in Australia and Malaysia, stayed close enough to Raikonnen of all people in China... and now they are fighting and uphill struggle with the Force India's.

Do they need to go back to the basics?

Who is this 'everybody' that knows that Merc's exhaust is the issue?

Some people speculate that may be a small part of the reason. It's certainly not all of it. And they don't know for certain it's ANY of it.
The Lotus solution was running sub par when they introduced it for a long time, they knew it was bad at the time, but it didn't have this effect.

I don't want to explain it's all stated in this forum a few pages back.

Yes it is - seems to be no chance of anyone talking about the car. Lets have a 24 hour respite.

If you post isn't about a feature on the car then it doesn't belong in this thread. Posts discussing the race, teams and fanboy laments/trolls have been deleted.
