Gentlemen, may I point out that we had this topic locked up 2 times in one week due excessive talk about tyres?

It would be golly fun if we could save the thirth time for after the monaco gp.

First,t was a question, so I'm sure of it.
Second, what I mean is that grip is related to en extent to tyre wear, with today's soft tyres you perhaps can have too much grip.
A car like the lotus, which is very good on its tyres, doesn't seem to have much traction, while the Red Bull has good traction, but isn't very good on its tyres.

You got better traction and it will help your wear as you don´t spin the tyres as much -unintenionally-

RedBull might have goodmechanical traction -helping them at corner exits but they seem to live also with more downforce at any given speed -which is too much vertical force for the tyre -leading to higher temps without more grip-

But as this is a W04 thread it could very well be W04 has similar or even more excessive DF levels ? would explain their Qualy pace and inability to conserve tyres..

Then on the other hand, MGP is good at high temperatures. Would more DF higher asfalt temperature make the tyres even worse?

Isn't that what Renault used to have and they made that illegal? I think their launch system was detecting when the sensors in the asphalt under the starting position got activated and that started the launch control.

Could it not be that they push that button to do a burn out off the grid to put down some rubber? Don't think they're allowed to have a sensor to aid the driver off the line.

Hamilton seems to have binned it anyway so I doubt it's that important.

A startlight marker would, IMO, be pressed at a certain point in the grid sequence (first light on?) and engage some time-limited ECU/and so on changes. It's one of the only parts of a GP that you can model in advance very well, even with Charlie's variable pause before the go.

Lewis has brought over the McLaren style to his wheel, hardly surprising. Was watching onboard shots of Monaco 08 from behind the wheel and you could see the one-finger gearshift lever exactly as it is above.
