A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
so Hamilton says he is struggling with confidence under breaking with this car. What would cause him to have this feeling? I'm guessing he is using the same breaks? I can't imagine its down to the ebd as thats not something the has been around a long time any way. Could it be the fric system and how it transfers weight under braking that his not used to?
Think it´s just the setup compared to the Mclaren with it´s super stiff front end among other things.
A shame because braking is one of his key traits but hopefully with some tweaking confidence comes back full on.

That's what I've thought, I imagine the movements from this system make very subtle changes to the balance of the car that may be hard to take into account under braking. Of course Nico will be used to Mercedes coming up with complicated suspension systems.
If the team puts magnets at the front of the car, for any purpose, would those have a negative effect?
Problems with data and connections, weight, higher CoG..?
What´s up with the downshifting on the Mercedes? Been watching the onboard feed with the rear view camera on the Merc and for a lack of a better word, it sounds like with every downshift the engine "farts" a little bit.
Sounds like it´s pushing out some exhaust gases during the shift rather then the usual crisp rev-matching we are used to hearing on F1 cars. (bar 2011)
Also very very sluggish downshifting. Are they pumping out exhaust gases during downshifts?
Edit: you can even hear it from the front wing camera facing forward.

Do they use a different brake supplier/different disks to mclaren? Actually I imagine there are any number of things which could cause the brakes of a Merc and those of a Mclaren to feel different to each other, not even including the FRIC system. Even when I'm driving road cars it takes me a few times to get a feel for the different sensitivity of different brakes. I doubt it's something that will trouble him for long.

Merc uses same brake discs as McLaren. They changed their suppliers only for Lewis.
Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

Incorrect - Lewis' car has the same brakes as he used to have on McLaren (he wanted the same feel) and ROS runs what Merc/he had run in previous seasons.
Several Twitter peeps, @adamcooperf1 and @scarbsf1 discussing tyre swapping i.e. swapping the rear right and rear lefts over with reference to Merc.
So how does this work?
Presumable the tyre is annealed in one direction then raced in toughed state in the other? Would love to know more about the chemical/physical processes.
