What is your favorite racetrack in the world?

Post

Just like the title describes, it is about your favorite racetrack. You tell what your favorite racetrack is and why you like/love it so much. You tell it's history, specifications (a layout of the track would be nice) and things that make it special.

My personal favorite racetrack is Circuit Park Zandvoort in Holland. The recent circuit is 4307 m. long. The older layouts were about 100 m. shorter then the new one. It opened in 1948 but before WOII there were already street races in the city. These street races were the actual motivation for the permanent circuit. The layout was drawn by Dutchman Hans Hugenholtz how also designed circuits as Suzuka in Japan, Zolder in Belgium and Jarama in Spain. Zandvoort probably got my attention at first because I am Dutch and than you are just going to give that track a bit more attention then others. But don't get me wrong, that is not the only reason why I love this circuit so much. Because Zandvoort is not a unimportant circuit, it has hold more Grand Prix than Brands Hatch, the Österreichring, even Imola doesn't beat Zandvoort with the number of Grand Prix it has hold. It actually has held 30 Grand Prix over the years and that is something that not much circuits can say. Zandvoort was famous for being very fast with lots of places to overtake. The track is located in the dunes whitch gives Zandvoort a beautiful chance of height. Like you may noticed before, it is not fully original. 50% of the track is but the other part not. I don't like the fact that they have changed a part of the track but this is what I think: It doesn't matter whitch corner or section of the track you take away when you chance a track, you will always get an very, very different experience. A circuit is just complete when you have every single corner. But don't get the idea it is no good anymore, it is still a grate track and it hosts things like DTM, European Formula 3 Championship and the GT1.

and than chose Zandvoort, there you can see all layouts of Zandvoort.

This is a qualifying session at the older layout. The driver is Alain Prost.

This is a lap from Bernd Schneider in a DTM car on the new circuit.

On this site is a bit more history of Zandvoort. There is also a photo tour about where the old layout was.

The site is about circuits of the past. Circuits how are closed or forgotten. The site tells the stories of the circuits and it has almost always a photo tour.

Insanity. +1. Great footage, great track.

Any original track that has not been bastardized through safety and spectacle enhancements, has my vote.

Looking forward to seeing this thread flesh out.
