Heh, we're doing a spectacularly good job of demonstrating how predicting the weather this far out is completely unreliable:

Basically, they know rain is coming – they just don't know whether it'll get there by thursday or by sunday.

The troposphere certainly makes for some challenging CFD. If you want current model predictions for precipitation (and so much more!), here is the GFS site. The precip_p36 etc are models for that many hours into the future. Other models are there too, if you look around:

If you really want to get into the weeds, especially during the event, check out the hourly satellite soundings:

guys, i live in montreal and the past coupe of weeks the weather has been crazy. either you die of the heat, or you get so wet that you could swim on the road.

for a weather radar, here is the best one. http://weather.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=wmn

as for the weather for this weekend, you'll know it 100% by thursday. but even then they still kinda eff up the prediction so you cant really trust it.

right now they say rain on friday/saturday and a dry race on sunday.

so Merc 1-2 qualy. hamilton wins the race, kimi second and rosberg third. --- you heard it here first.

If its wet qualifying, from what we've seen so far, get your mortgage on a Red Bull 1-2.

Rain or not i still think there will be a dogfight for pole between Merc and RBR.
i´d go so far to say that if Lotus and/or Ferrari grabs one pole this year i´ll eat my hat.

Merc´s probably got the edge in the dry and the Red Bull i the wet.

This would do fine for me, but I'd like to see Kimi take the win

It's a shame the Habs are out, it would've made one hell of a Saturday night

As I can see the most accurate forecasts vary between continuous light rain and only some spots of rain, there is not such a great difference, but as it has been mentioned we should wait until next Thursday before we have a more realistic view.

All weather forecasts are questionable but waiting 4 days after the race to get a realistic forecast is a bit much.

Basically just validates my theory that these tires have essentially two modes. One mode is achieved by gently bringing up the tire to temperature, the other by attempting to extract one lap pace. One mode is consistent and very fast but requires time and wear to achieve. The other mode is super fast but inconsistent requires no wear to achieve but accelerates it. This is the only key factor the driver can actually control. It's been pointed out in winter testing that nursing the tires for a few laps gave much more consistent fast laps as opposed to just going for it. The thing that Lotus and Ferrari can do is take their sweet ass time in getting up to temperature, because of this their tires last longer. With Red Bull and Mercedes this is clearly not the case.

It paid off for Vettel in Bahrain because he was stuck behind the slower Rosberg and Raikkonen and Alonso both had traffic and car troubles. All else being equal, the driver that can nurse the tires best while still maintaining pace at the beginning of the stint is the one that will win barring special circumstances like Monaco.

I predict the McLarens in top 5.
No reason just a feeling.

I suspect that 'next Thursday' is that day when Wimpy finally pays for all those hamburgers he's eaten.
