Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Alonso did the best time with all the upgrades plugged in, which is good news, exhaust, sidepod blade, nose and FW.

They ran the updates through the entire FP2, which indicates that they will keep them for the rest of the weekend. But they seem to still have quite a lot of work to do, because even though Alonso set the fastest time, the car looked like quite a handfull.

No shark mouth? I have the impression that the shark mouth is used just at high downforce circuits - but I do not remember if it was there in monaco.

@Crucial_Xtreme - awesome shots, looked like a busy FP for Scuderia. I also noticed that the turning vane under the nose has turned into two element instead of three and the usual (already) Kiel-probe rake.

A comment and a shot from fellow blogger Matt Somers:

Notice the added brake duct inlets instead of their usual Scoopless efforts

Pirelli might use a solution favoring Ferrari: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/107926

Though I wonder if the new glue instead of the kevlar belt, would change the working temperature range or not?? But I guess it surely will not alter it like the kevlar belt, 10 degrees. So this is good news for Ferrari! Also, does anybody knows what was the opinions of the different teams regarding to the FP1 new tyre test?

Scarbs take on the new F138 FW:

The front wing is the most interesting part. The cascade winglet mounted to the wing's endplate has completely changed. Rather than being a horizontal wing, the element is now curved such that it meets the wing in an 'r' shape.

The revised cascade wing will probably create downforce, but the change is more likely to be about modifying the way the winglet bends the airflow around the outside of the front tyre. The new outer vertical section of the winglet will be quite effective at turning the airflow.

He also says he's told the pelican noses actually do add downforce even if their design is counterintuitive at first sight, as it appears they would add lift not downforce.
