AUTOSPORT asks me to subscribe to watch their site? really?

Post anything that doesn't belong in any other forum, including gaming and topics unrelated to motorsport. Site specific discussions should go in the site feedback forum.

Re: AUTOSPORT asks me to subscribe to watch their site? real

Post

Whilst looking for rss feeds I came across an American website called Racer.com, for a magazine of the same name. This also happens to be a Haymarket publication, like Autosport, and all of the content appears to come from them. At the bottom of each article it actually says ‘This article originally appeared in Autosport.com.’

The website seems to be up to date and I prefer the layout to Autosport’s cluttered home page. Obviously the American racing series are more prominent, but they also have sections for DTM and other European racing series.

After a few page views a box does appear prompting you to register, but you can dismiss this and continue viewing. Alternatively, registration is free and just requires you to type in your email address, password and select which state you live in. No other details are required.

There does not appear to be any restriction on the number of pages you can view.

I hope this information is of some use.

Please don't wash Autosport dirty laundry here - several posts have been deleted.

Many online news sites are starting this approach. Like the NYT has a limit of 10 articles a month I have seen too.

Couple of days ago i had some thing saying i needed to register to get more than 10 or so (might have been 20) views p/m so i've had enough...

... but it would still be nice if there was somewhere to get F1, LMP, GT, WRC, W/BTCC, MotoGP and so on news all in one place. Does anyone know of another site that has a good range of motorsports news? Or do i need to just follow a hell of a lot more people on twitter :P

You could try http://www.motorsport.com, but I found the coverage of some series to be a bit lacking and the content is not always up to date.

Alternatively, try an rss feed reader, which is my preferred solution.

I use the Mr Reader app on my iPad, which connects directly to my google reader account. The google reader service is due to be retired on the 1st July, but http://www.feedly.com will offer a similar service and is probably a good place to start.

The advantage of using a feed reader is that you can pull all of the content from various different sources into one place. For example, I subscribe to both the official dtm rss feed and also feeds on http://www.racer.com/rss/ (same content as autosport) and http://www.touringcartimes.com, which also covers btcc and wtcc.

I chose the Mr Reader app as that gives you the option to format the information, removing all of the adverts and just presenting the text and photographs on a plain background.

The 'In Private' function in IE or 'Private Browsing' in Safari deals with this neatly.
