Cockpit position

Post

Trying to do a car in sketchup to the 2014 regulations but can not find any regulation that says how far forward or back the cockpit goes..
I have used the regulations and drawing 2 and 5 from the regulations to draw the survival cell but cant figure out where to place it on the car.

is it up to the designer to place it as far forward or back as they want or is it regulated somewhere an i am just not seeing it??

it seems to be that A-A of the survival cell is quite close to the front wheel center line.
i cant finish drawing allot of the regulations as they refer to the rear face of the cockpit entry template.

Any help would be much appreciated. [-o<

Traditionally the drivers feet have to be behind the front wheel centre line. That was one of the first rules they did back in 1988 to make it safer. It is probably still there.

13.4.1 The survival cell must extend from behind the fuel tank in a forward direction to a point at least 300mm in front of the driver's feet, with his feet resting on the pedals and the pedals in the inoperative position.
13.4.2 When he is seated normally, the soles of the driver's feet, resting on the pedals in the inoperative position, must not be situated forward of the front wheel centre line.

=D> Thank you
I can now position the survival cell and finish off the rest of the regulations.
