Mercedes AMG F1 W04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

"...and there, very much in flames, is Jacques Laffite's Ligier. That's obviously a turbo blaze, and of course, Laffite will be able to see that conflagration in his mirrors... he is coolly parking the car somewhere safe." Murray Walker, San Marino 1985

The textual confirmation of the new floor:

http://www.formel1.de/news/grand-prix-b ... puttmachen:
"Der Mechaniker hat mir gerade gesagt: 'Der Unterboden, den wir angeschraubt haben, ist der schönste, den ich in meiner Karriere gesehen habe. Macht uns den nicht kaputt.'
"The mechanic has just told me: 'The floor, we screwed, is the most beautiful I've seen in my career. Don't break it.'

Well, if it looks that much different, I reckon we're seeing a biggish update here. Especially when considering the revised wing as well. And who knows how many upgrades under the skin.

I must say, I'm really liking the development this season. =D>

'The floor, we screwed....'!!!
I've heard about having love for your work, but that is seriously taking things too far!

Yeah, the reason why Hamilton always checks for any white spots before getting into his seat.

Looks like some nice amounts of updates. Anyone who can indicate the differences concerning the floor?

It's not an additional front wing element, the wing has been 5 elements since pre-season testing. The uppermost element is simply extended further inboard rather than ending at its typical union with the other elements. This uppermost element also appears to feature an overall higher rake angle when compared to the prior wing, not completely sure on this yet though but that certainly appears to be the case.

I suspect MB have found more rear downforce for such a front wing upgrade balance to be even considered. Very nice job so far this year MB.

Bolted on...better term here =D>

Edit:

Therefore Mercedes has new parts in the luggage. A new floor, a new front wing and modified brake ducts and a modified rearsuspension to bring the desired improvements in Silverstone.

The added element isn't the uppermost one; I am waiting for FP2 to get closer screenshots of the new FW, but you can see that they added a layer right on top of the main plane.

It's just the angle of the shot there mate. The main plane has always had two elements practically on top of one another there.

This is pretty much how I see it also.
