You sir are on fire! +1.

Yeah one complete nose tip higher. How much is that, an inch? 1.5 of an inch?

Great develpoment Pace by Merc. Really Impressive.

The new nose looks much better, cleaner and more aggressive. The old on was a little odd. ^^

Can this affect in a negative way the balance of the car?
For example, MP4-27 took a couple races to get things sorted after they got higher nose

More potential rear downforce if they can work the flows well

Of course it can, it's a new part – they'll have no idea how it'll perform until they stick it on the car and test it.

That said, the team have done a great job of turning up to races with parts that work right off the bat this year, so hopefully this will be the same.

I suspect the Higher nose is courtesy of Geoff Willis' department. Nicely done MB. An additional inch or so under the nose if their CFD work translates 90% or so to the track will be a nice gain indeed, that's a good chunk of CFM.

Here´s the translated version,

At Mercedes wants to make a good impression in front of the home crowd after the success of Nico Rosberg last Sunday at the British GP, the Brackley-based team would like to stay at the top even at the Nurburgring. The W04 has been seeing an entirely new face that will be tested in tomorrow's practice: it is not only of a different design from that to which we were accustomed silver arrows, because the technicians led by Bob Bell had to make a new crash test at Cranfield to obtain approval by the FIA . 's new solution, in fact, is more lightly constructed thanks to which you can move further down the masses in favor of a better balance of weight that should translate into a further opportunity to preserve the tires in the first GP of the season had suffered from abnormal u'usura. The most striking aspect of the muzzle modified Mercedes is the similarity with that of the Ferrari F138: the front wing support pylons that were protruding downwards, now have a trend almost straight and have an accentuated form to enhance the venturi effect. Not only that but the tip of the "nose" has become more squared and flat after a long work in the wind tunnel. Effe 1 Photo Tech

Wicked. The higher nose should provide the front splitter and barge boards with higher quality air.

Anyone else remember what happened last time a Mercedes powered car driven by Hamilton/overseen by Paddy Lowe was given a higher nose mid-season?

Something to do with "unbelievable under steer"?

Sure you are not mistaking Hamilton for Button who had problems with the high nose?
Because the first event the nose showed up Hamilton took pole* 4 tenths clear of anyone so any understeer must have been miniscule.

I am pretty sure that Paddy Lowe is not behind this new nose design.

I don't think that will be so much the case here. They did made the nose even lighter then before, and almost all the mass sits in the lower structural nose. These few 100grams which are raised by an inch aren't going to make much difference on the balance. In exchange, you have the lower structural nose loosing mass. Perhaps the bigger concern is evening out the increase in rear DF, but they can always lower the rear wing AoA or increase it at the front wing.

At mclaren in 2012, they just pulled up the complete structural nose by quite some inches. The CoG clearly got affected by that.

That was most definitely Button who said that on the radio, not Hamilton and I'm sure it won't be the case with the mercs as their chassis is already high enough for that nose, whereas the McLaren nose was a sort of compromise due to their lower chassis.
