After working in F1 for 2.5 years and winning 2 constructors titles, I am glad to be out. They push you to the extreme and then some more because they know their are 50 people who want your job. The work is interesting but very restrictive with what you can do. There are too many egos and HR will screw you around as much possible. There are people who have made it work and gave up a work life balance. 50-60 hr weeks are the norm and when doing wind tunnel testing, I would be getting closer 90hr weeks. It just burns you out and you quickly lose your passion for it.

As one of my friends said before I started working in F1, "The best thing about working in F1 is the job you have after you leave".

I think there has been much confusion,

I can only afford 28hrs a week as i have all my own research and development that needs doing at my own company which is largely a research facility.

I probably can't follow the race engineer role. A few green eyed trolls are out me thinks.

Work in F1 what do you do in a team? I've read your blog and its very gerneric although lots of boasting about working for a team.

Oh really.

The topic itself is interesting, but the OP just is a really bad troll.

When I was young(er) I always had dreams of working in F1, loved the cars and such, when you are looking at it as a 12 year old it was a dream job, looked like the perfect job to have. Now I am much more "down to earth" and it seems like Formula 1 is the career choice you do not want to make.

I would love to read some (horror)stories of people with working experience in F1, what they do, what they were expected to do etc. etc.

Can you give us the link to the homepage of this company?

What experience you have with race engineering?
Teams, race series?
Just doing some Matlab programs does not make you a race engineer. Many guys are doing that.

Well i think it is a nice learning ground, even though it's probably like slavery. Most jobs are like that nowadays; take it or leave it mentality. F1 to me was always like a circus tour anyway, so i knew it could not be glamorous behind the curtains.
The factory is probably the most civilized part of the team.
If i were to join a team, i think i would much prefer to work on structural side of things like gearbox design. The aero seems to be the most painstaking and annoying.
As a mechanical engineer i couldn't see myself working outside of design. So more than likely i wouldn't be on the road.
What is the salary like for an average mechanical engineer in F1?
For Sure!!
