Does it matter if it is because of that?
It is purely of interest sake for me, of course, I have held the view that the tyres could be a problem for a while now.

For the team, it absolutely matters that they know what the problem is, for car development, for getting back on track, for understanding updates and simulators, trains of thought. It is very important

I dont know nothing about the older spec, but Jenson said that he had problems with the front tires, that were cold and this caused a slow cornering speed. this is what he said to the italian press during Q3. he said also that downforce is ok.

Hm, according to below statement given today after Qualy by JB, Mclaren now has more rear downforce.....also he points out a interesting issue with using fresh rubber on the MP4-28

"When we run fresh rubber, I can't get enough front-end in the car - we're maxed out - so I'm struggling. In a way, that's a positive - because it means we've introduced downforce to the rear of the car. And hopefully that situation will change for the race, when you can play around with things in the cockpit a little more, and there's generally less rear grip for everyone.

yes i also read the Jenson's feedback after the qualy at the Mclaren site. i think that the tires were a part of the problem that the car had this year, so now they need more front downforce. could we se a new front wing maybe? :)

I think not, since all of the new development ideas go for 2014, now we are just reviving what was planned few months back but I'm afraid we wont see any more dramatic changes for the rest of the season...but fingers crossed for MCL

Mclaren have gained performance this weekend from rear brake ducts. Brake ducts seem to be a big performance area with this current formula and the 2014- formula as well i believe. I don't remember brake ducts being such an important development area pre 2009 just wondered why this was the case?

Simple: before 2009 teams were able to find bigger gains elsewhere. With many sections of the car excluded out from development teams started to look elsewhere for performance.
