Williams FW35 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They have Pastor, who destroys one or two per race. :)

That's always the trend isn't it?

The more stuff they bolt on, the faster the car will go? Clean slate then after each year.

Got this info from an Williams forum (thanks Francesc!):

Yesterday:

Tobias Grüner ams F1 ‏@tgruener 2m
#F1 Williams with a huge update package for #Korea. New sidepods, exhausts and modified floor in the rear of the car.

Today:

Tobias Grüner ams F1 ‏@tgruener 10h
#F1 Williams not with new exhaust & diffuser in #Korea. Parts have been developed. But building them too expensive. (400.000 £).

Tobias Grüner ams F1 ‏@tgruener 10h
Planned parts not useful for 2014 & expected gain not worth the effort. So only new frontwing & modified floor for Williams in Korea.

That would be a pitch damper from an interconnected suspension whoevers car that actually is.

Quite a intrincate FW, lots of steps and an interesting R-wing/vane.

I hope it isn't money down the drain.

That picture with the pitch damper isn't the Williams indeed. Sorry for the confusion.

Why do Williams keep bringing failed front wing and developments to races?

These are (developments of) the 2013 launch wing, which proved to be worse than the (development of the) 2012 wing they have been racing since finding out. The upper nose has also been tested and taken off the car.

Are they still unsure about the previous versions of the wing (not the new, three-element one) or is it just cheaper not to update the 5th and 6th backup wing?

Maldonado and Xevi Pujolar apparently approved the new wing.

Is it me, or are we looking at a test version of a 2014 front wing? The dimension seem to match, with the exception of the footplate.

I've taken that into consideration. The actual wing area still looks quite small. I've tried to look for different pictures where that particular wing is mounted, but without any succes.
