Ferrari F138

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Of course, you'd have to modify cooling (i.e. to conduct the hot air to the outside), Sauber was able to do it btw. M. Kaltenborn also said about this very modification, that in theory their approach to leave last years configuration was based on simulations which showed higgher potential of the Ferrari / McLaren and Sauber early 2013 approach. But in reality, they were never able to exploit the effect and returned to the 2012 ramp style.

Domenicali recently admitted that they never really understood exhaust blowing in the last years, and exhaust blowing is something not that easy to simulate or test in wind tunnel.
This makes me really wonder why we never saw Ferrari at least trying to copy the fastest car on the grid since 2010.

Sauber had central cooling exit (a la RB) since the beginning, so it's a bit easier for them.

Both drivers tested slightly different upper front wing flaps during today's practice sessions.

The leading edge of this beam wing on the F138 is much thicker than anything they've used thus far this year. Can't be for 2014 because there are no more beam wings. The contour of the rest of the wing is similar to other iterations used this season but the leading edge is huge in comparison to other versions.

Could it be the angle? They seem to have the rear wing out and tilt to the back and to the our left...Like the tower of Pizza.

Yeah I thought about that(picture angle) before posting, but was looking back through some older images and thought it indeed looked larger/thicker than other iterations. But I worked all day yesterday & it's 5am where I'm at, so the lack of sleep might be fooling my eyes.

it could be biggere to strengthen and make it more ridgid. they have taken so much out of the bottom of the rear wing, with all the slots and gaps, (the bottom isnt a fixed edge, so its prone to vibrating and cracking if its not braced

I think they never ran it. Although I believe it was tried just before Spa

I really appreciate all the close-up photos. They give testimony to all the effort, the time, and expense Ferrari has spent on their car. Each photo is evidence to an obsessive attention to the most minute details. All to produce a car which must be considered a relative failure. I can't imagine how Pat Fry and the entire technical team must feel to have worked so hard and failed (in the sense that anything less than a championship is failure for Ferrari). Would hate to see Alonso leave, but would understand if he did.
