Poor Jackie Oliver who thought he had finally made it big time, not to mention Stefan Johansson who drove the beast.
I wonder what John Barnard's reaction had been if Ron Dennis had given him these engines to work with?
IIRC Fath (Kuhn ?) proved that the BMW roller bearing big end could be made reliable at high rpm if its diameter was reducedmarcush. wrote:coming back to my Fath URS theme:sorry only in german

holy s..t these were 4 guys 1 of them an engineer and they did everything themselves (only gears and modelmaking was outsourced) ...including building the bike itself(!) AND beat works outfit BMW who had dominated the sport for over a decade....
Interestingly Fath was voted "man of the year" in 1968 by britishmotorsports journalists -in germany he never got the recognition he deserved...it seemed not appropriate to beat famous "Wirtschaftswunder" BMW with a private-backdoor- effort ....Fath really is a hero to me
ah and not to forget ..Helmut Fath was the inventor of the "Kneeler" sidecar layout as well...

similarly the URS cranks had small (roller bearing) journals made possible by its cross-plane design (additional to central power takeoff)
........ like current Moto GP machines
