Michael Schumacher, the retired seven-time Formula One champion, turned down an offer from Lotus to drive the final two races of the season as a replacement for Kimi Raikkonen.

A report in Bild newspaper was confirmed to The Associated Press by Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm, who says the 44-year-old Schumacher "would have been fit enough, but he's gotten used to his new life."

Schumacher retired for the second time at the end of the last season, having failed to win a race for Mercedes in a three-year comeback.

Raikkonen will miss the last two races in the United States and Brazil after back surgery. He will be driving next season for Ferrari, one of Schumacher's former teams for which he won five consecutive championships.
WOW would have been interesting, seeing schuey in a LOTUS. imagine the insane support and praise if he'd actually home that lotus in for a WIN! realistically though, he'd probably don't bring that car anywhere interesting for 2 reasons: 1. his time at Merc showed he's still a great driver but not up to his earlier level. reason 2: jump in hasty in completely unfamiliar grounds with 2 races left.......the potential to smear the name down even further are wayyyy bigger then actually gaining something.

and....where will lotus get the money to pay him? :wtf: :?

For everyone who kept asking for confirmation that Perez wasn't going to be at McLaren any longer.....is that good enough now?

Some say Barrichelo coudl drive for Lotus in Interlargos... He is another one who still didn't accept the end of his career. He even posted on twitter a pic of him driving a Lotus in an event in 1998.

unfortunately, yes :|

can't really grasp it, honestly. it just makes no sense. even with 'their' official statement regarding why they dumped him.

Pretty intriguing really. It wouldn't surprise me at all since this year's Ferrari is dead to the world as far as any more performance they can drag out of it, they will certainly lose second to Mercedes and could lose third to Lotus the way things have been heading. Raikkonen bowing out is a gift to them and they can't afford to have a half-decent driver in that second Lotus.

Even more intriguing than that it raises the question of whether any such payment indicates an agreement with Ferrari. Certainly, if Hulkenberg was going to be at Lotus next year he would have been there this weekend.

The game's afoot, as they say. As many in the know already well know, the love affair between Ferrari and Alonso is over. He almost certainly won't be there in 2015 and IMHO it makes sense to move the commercial chess pieces around to see whether any move can be brought forward.

The last McLaren driver to score fewer points as a percentage of his teammate's was Heikki, the year he left. Prior to that, it was DC, the year he left. Prior to that, it was Mika, the year he left*.

(*Not counting the year Kimi had 10 dnf's of course.)

Word of advice to Magnussen: score more than 60% of Button's points.
