A shameless image thread for the enginephiles

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

The true measure of an engine is its power and nothing else, that's why god invented gearboxes and final drives!

Btw, a goldstar to the member who can tell what this is? In all honesty, I don't have a clue myself, but it looks cool.

Especially for foxhound, this is where it all began.

Engineers will appreciate the 75% thermal efficiency.

Looks like a highly customized Chev small block v8 to me, hard to be certain tho - massively impressive plumbing work etc :)

The goldstar goes to our distinguished moderator.

Btw, I'm not sure the majority of the members got this one, but I think I did; Love for Maldonado perhaps?

No engine in the world gets 75% thermal efficiency.

The huge boat Diesels get maybe 50%.

the reason for this discrepancy ? ..........
thermal efficiency applies to events in-cylinder
overall efficiency unfortunately aka brake thermal efficiency applies to events from air intake to flywheel

I believe the good moderator was referring to a steam engine and not an ICE, which probably can reach a 75% efficiency?
