Re: 2014 Design

I was thinking heating up the air that goes through the sidepods after it has passed the coolers. This would accelerate the air and allow higher airflow through the sidepod. But as the exhaust manifolds are already placed in the sidepods i recon they allready do this to some degree.

Perhaps an exhaust manifold with passive cooling ribs on it to transfer more heat to the air. Maby thats why Renault disguised their manifolds in carbon shrouds?

But then again you wouldnt want to cool the exhaust too much as it would loose some energy before reaching the turbine.

Basically he said you can't redirect the Exhaust Gases or Bypass them (witch we already know) but you can "convert" them. He couldn't say more to that at this Point but since he knows what some teams are doing for 2014 i think there could be some very Interesting stuff going on next year.

Very interesting stuff indeed. He appears to imply that you could either have an additional exhaust gas powered turbine or reuse the existing one in order to generate gas that you can redirect without limitations. I am not sure whether it's feasable and allowed to split the air outlet rather than the exhaust outlet of the turbo (i.e. partly to the engine, partly to the diffusor).

The gas/steam powered turbine have already been discussed in the engine thread. I think we came to the agreement that it wasnt possible within the regulations :)

Adrian Newey on nose design next year:
AN: Well, it’s the regulations that define the car. And, of course, ideally the car is fast and has a stylish design. But everybody in the paddock will give a fast car preference over an attractive car - that’s the way it is. Yes, for me it would be good if a bit more consideration was given to aesthetics in the drafting of the regulations. But fast is paramount over beauty.
Without saying exactly in which way it is going to be ugly, he does confirm we can expect what we feared.

Im thinking about the new side crash structures from next year. And the ideas some people had about fighter jet style sidepods a few years back. Perhaps that could be more realistic now?

Perhaps not next year when sidepods would probably be bulky because of cooling. But when they get the sidepods thight enough I predict that the sidepods and cras structures could seperate. So that sidepod openings would be slightly more backwards on the chassis. And the side crash structures would become 2 wings/flow directors. If thats possible due to regulations I dont know though.

Has anyone seen Scarbs' 2014 RB10 drawing in Sport-Bild today? Be interesting to see his interpretation as he's always on the ball and his designs pretty accurate.

Can't find it. Would you be so kind to post it here ? :)

The endplate doesn't seem to be correct IMO. You'd expect to have it a bigger bend in it to turn air away from the tyre.

I know. I mean it seems to me that he drew a 625mm high chassis + a 525mm high bulkhead + a small 'vanity panel' + an S-duct + something 'special' under the bulkhead in the 'transition' between the underside of the chassis and the undeside of the nose : P WPTFormula spoke about something simlar...
Or maybe I'm reading the pic completely wrong. So weight and sea : P

I don't have it sadly, I was hoping someone here did though.

Ive been waiting all day for someone to either screenshot their digital copy of the magazine, or someone nice in German to scan the image into their computer.
