Mercedes F1 W05 Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Was hoping for a white and green like the shirt they have.

White is the german racing color(as is silver) and green for Petronas. Think it could have looked fresh.
Right now it looks like an oil-stained silver with some black spray they bought at some supermarket for 9 cents.

The silver colour can't go, and it shouldn't, although it must be made brighter. It's the teal that messes-up the livery.

Mercedes-Benz = always silver indeed, but the combination with the green of Petronas could be better. Oh well, I just hope the car is a RBR killer.

The green that runs between the nose and the cockpit just looks like a smudge, I don't really care though as long as the car is the best overall package next season.

I read somewhere that Mercedes is working already for two years on the car!
And I don't think they meant the engine and it it certainly is the not the (complete) aerodynamics so think they will have the supreme packaging.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Considering they coaxed hamilton from McLaren because of the 2014 regulations, i wouldn't really be suprised. He signed for them back in October last year, meaning they must have had something coming together even then (to show him), although i imagine it will have only been a small team working on it.

If F1 ever has full on "customer cars" I could see a white Mercedes on the grid. A factory Mercedes race car that isn't silver though? That's just crazy talk. It'd be like a factory Ferrari F1 car that wasn't red.

Totally agree about the "black". I wish the car had black highlights instead of teal.

Depends what you mean by factory, but 1964 for two races:

AMuS claiming that Merc found around 2 seconds from 2012 to 2013

http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/form ... 55931.html

"Möglicherweise werden die Seitenkästen später noch verkleinert. Mercedes arbeitet mit einer amerikanischen Firma zusammen, die ein völlig neues Kühlkonzept entwickelt hat. Im Moment besteht noch ein Risiko mit der Zuverlässigkeit. Sollte der Durchbruch erzielt werden, könnte man die Kühler bei gleicher Wärmeabgabe um 30 Prozent verkleinern."

Googlr translator: Maybe the side boxes are later reduced. Mercedes is working with an American company that has developed a completely new cooling concept. At the moment there is still a risk to the reliability. If a breakthrough can be achieved, one could reduce the cooler at the same heat output by 30 percent.

That car was entered by the US-based NART team, not the factory, which is why it bears the American blue with white livery.

I heard Ross Brawn say in an interview they believe they've got 2014 "very right."

Lewis' move was all about 2014 and they must've given him some very good indication of what they expected.

It'll be crushing for Merc if they fail to deliver and is probably make or break for the F1 team.
