why can I not vote on this topic?
"Thermal protection coatings for motorsport applications"
I can vote on Lightntasty's reply but not the original post???????
Indeed, upon request from several members, I believe somewhere in this thread.Pup wrote:There seems to be a time limit for voting on older posts now.
Self referential question: are those posts dumb enough to vote them up?Pup wrote:I think the opposite happens far more often. I see some of the dumbest posts voted up just because someone agrees with the general argument.flynfrog wrote:I really haven't noticed any down voting out of spite but I haven't looked that hard.
Many of those posts being my own.
Have you noticed most people in this thread is worried about his rating? Of course, I´m not, so.... as usual, confusing and long post, there you go.Tomba wrote:Agreed. Added on todo list
It's beyond silly but:Ciro Pabón wrote:Self referential question: are those posts dumb enough to vote them up?Pup wrote:I think the opposite happens far more often. And, over all... what about this one?
Complementary question: is "vote up" a verb?
Intriguing question: why people with low ratings are absent from this thread?
Note to self: in representative democracies most people doesn't vote. Do they have low political ratings? Do they think they have low political ratings?

Theoretical question or Food for Thought:
1. Assume the true knowledge of a person can be measured.
2. Assume his true knowledge about a particular subject can be measured by his peers at this forum.
(...or maybe not. Is it true that as much as half the people are below average intelligence?)
3. For example, let's say Adrian Newey enters the forum.
4. Assume Newey's rating would be something like 100.000 in aerodynamics, but probably 1.2 in Caption Competition (I'm assuming, of course, he has a British Engineer sense of humour)
5.Thus, if Newey, stubbornly, insists on posting in Caption Competition for whatever reason (let's say he's daydreaming about competing in the Murika Cup, perhaps?) he could be expelled for being extremely British and way too much "Engineer Brain Damage".
Conclusion: perhaps ratings should be separated by forum, or maybe for Technical vs Non Technical (aka Fan Boy) threads.
I've put up with absolute jerks that really knew their trade in something, believe me... and not only in my professional life, but in this forum. Actually, some of them can be tamed.
If you don't take this confusing advice about "jerkiness and technical prowess" separation, dear Tomba, you risk losing Newey. He can be a moron for some things and a genius for other things, Sheldon Cooper's style.
Accept it, the only guy that specializes in everything is me: I've specialized in more and more things during my life until I know almost nothing of almost everything.

I checked your reputation changes and I have yet to find anything strange. Everything looks fine and a lot of different members are voting on your posts.
Thanks. This is an area I only occasionally visit to see if I’m annoying too many people.SatchelCharge wrote:The menu option "View my votes" is very misleading, it just shows recent voting activity throughout the entire forum. To see why your reputation is what it is you have to click on your name as it sits next to one of your posts, then next to "Reputation" click "View changes."
