Clearly that isn't Alonso's helmet for next year. Just a photoshop someone did.

If he ever dropped the Asturias blue in his helmet, I'd be 100% shocked.

I'm getting a bit confused with this, maybe i've mixed things or read over some stuff.

I recall there being talk about when a driver becomes champion, he'd switch numbers with the current champion.
But i thought that was with the 'team' permanent numbers, not the driver numbers.

Am i to assume that if vettel runs number 1 this year, and hamilton picks 12, and hamilton wins next year,
then hamilton would get number 1 and vettel 12?

sorry but this stuff got me utterly confused #-o

perhaps i'm just mixing things up, the most logical sense imho would be, which i also get from what i read,
is that for example vettel picks '5' as his permanent number, but as a champion, he gets to 'etiquette' himself
with the number 1 on the car. If vettel no longer is a champion, he needs to drive around with '5' on the car again.
Let's say hamilton has 12 on his car, then hamilton gets the WDC title, and may run '1' on his car.

I assume meanwhile, the permanent numbers are still fixed and a newbie or rookie can't pick 12 or 5 during the
championship year, right?

So what do we've got now?

1 - WORLD DRIVER CHAMPION

5 - VETTEL ??
6 - ROSBERG
7 - RAIKKONEN

11 - PEREZ
12 - HAMILTON ??
14 - ALONSO

19 - MASSA

21 - VERGNE ??
22 - BUTTON ??

77 - BOTTAS

He dropped it for McLaren, no?

You'd be spot on:

The one thing he has been maintaining with all his helmets is the Spanish flag (Red and yellow) as you can see at the rear section of his Mclaren helmet.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

The Mclaren helmet is definitely missing the blue. Still, I don't think that all red helmet is real. The font isn't even consistent with the car number....which I believe isn't mandatory to match.

I also don't think it's real. The font for the 14 is too crude - but I was just pointing out his McLaren helmet had no blue

No, the drivers get to pick a number from 2 - 99. Number 1 is reserved for the current WDC. Vettel gets his pick of a number just like everyone else, but he gets to choose whether he'll race with no. 1 or with the other number he selected.

So, using your scenario, say Vettel chooses no. 3 but decides to race as no. 1 in 2014. 3 is still reserved for him. If Hamilton wins the championship, he can keep racing as no. 12 or use no. 1 instead, while Vettel would race as no. 3 in 2015.

That's exactly how the system is
