The 1970 Lotus 72 jalousie rear wing;

Closed at Brands Hatch;

Open at Hockenheim;
Image

None at all at Monza;
Image

This was also one of the first races for Rindt with an integral helmet, hence the non-color, all for the aerodynamics it was said.

Didnt he crash just that car with just that helmet at Monza and died in 1970 ?

Holy crap dude! That thing was way ahead of its time! Look at the turning vanes near the rear wheels, just like those near the front of modern sidepods. The flat floor with a curved top surface between the wheel and coke bottle. It's even got a tea tray for pity's sake. Who was responsible for that?Image
