Ferrari 2014 Car Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Exhuast is wrong or if thats an exhaust on the side low down on the sidepod.

I guess it's the radiator exit. The question is if the hot radiator air brings anything good to the table concerning the diffuser wall. IIRC the general consensus was that the energy of that air is not significant enough.

Probably not a terribly good idea. Due to likely speed and flow quality differences between the flow over the sidepods and the flow through the radiators you can safely expect some serious turbulences where both flows meet. Unfortunately this turbulent mixture will be the one flowing over the diffuser upper side.
Fine tuning both flows to match each other would surely be a hell of a work you can probably waste the best part of a season on.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Through body aero is going to be KING for 2014 as far as aero goes. Since you can't blow the diffuser anymore, and new power units with new cooling demands. The team that can design the best ducting for air that works its way inside the chassis will have the aerodynamic edge.

Is it possible to simply duct air through the car to the diffuser and not pass it through anything? So duct it through a tube to the rear of the car, obviously there might be the possibility of the air stalling at the entrance though.

Duct reduces the energy of the stream, not sure it would be more useful than having a proper coke-bottle shape before the diffuser. However, you can of course manage difficult spots by removing or adding flow where needed.

That energy is transferred to the chassis by means of pressure, and as we know downforce is caused by a difference in pressure over a continuous surface.

I don't know what the technical gurus think...but there is no way that nose could be legal?
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

There's a hole in the nose through and through, which isn't allowed since 2009. Even if they made the hole with the vanity panel, it still would not be legal.

The idea behind it is creative - looking from the side the nose does drop in a continual line.

Firstly its not a hole its the pylons which meets under the nose, which i dont see a point for, other the Fw is illegal cause its to long.

If it's not a hole, then the nose tip is too high.
But the idea looks clear: put a very small plate under the nose at 185mm above the ground, make that go through as the nosetip and you have in reality still a high nose. Unfortunaly, then it will be considered as a hole, no matter what explanation you give to it - it's illegal since 2009.

The car is obviously not designed with actual measurements in mind. The proportions are all wrong.
