Here are some thoughts about McLaren's 2014 title sponsorship:
Are McLaren without a 2014 title sponsor?

interesting. they could very well stay that way throughout 2014. Would be interesting if they'd go orange all year, or completely chrome all year. thanks for the link!

Martin Whitmarsh is traipsing around the world in pursuit of Fernando Alonso – brandishing contracts akin to love letters – like some stricken teenage girl.
Pics or it didn't happen.

Dont use a picture from his collection display to prove that Whitmarsh is trying to sign him. As you see, all of his former Team Principals are there as well.

We could say that Flavio is trying to lure him away from Ferrari as well to start his own racing team that will replace Lotus. I believe it's called BH F1 (Banana hammock F1) you know, because that's the type of swimsuit he likes to wear with the ladies around.

Media has blown that up as well.

- Would you like to have Alonso in your team?
- well yea i think alot of teams would kill to have a driver of his caliber.

Media - ALONSO IS GOING TO MCLAREN. And the show starts, rumors become fact, fact becomes fiction.

Well Mclaren have gone a year without a title sponsor before when they bridged the gap between West and Vodafone, but the common story last year was that a new sponsor was signed, it had nothing to do with Perez and it would be announced in December, that that then slipped to this year raises the question, has that sponsor bailed, or did they decide the car launch was the chance for maximum exposure?

I think we should all have learned over the years that in Formula 1 where there is a lot of smoke there is generally a fire.

The whole Raikkonen to Ferrari thing (the first time) dragged on for ages with denials all round from every party until someone had to ask him what that Enzo was doing in his garage. Even when Alonso was at McLaren it was well known he'd end up at Ferrari at some point. Ditto the Vettel rumours.

That's a weak argument or rather wishful thinking. For every driver X to team Y rumour that turned out to be true there are five that did not. KR to Ferrari didn't drag that long anyway, it started with management's announcement about the end of negotiations with RB (this one did drag on) and final decision was made around the time of ending Hulkenberg's two months negotiations with a text message #-o .

Agreed. You would have to field 5 car teams if there usually was fire where the smoke are.

Sorry, but no. When you get persistent rumours and a ton of smoke like this you always get the inevitable denials and the same old party line of 'oh, it's all just rumours' until the inevitable happens and everyone shuts up, whistles for a while and then forgets what's just happened and starts describing the next line of persistent rumours and speculation as such.

How about you read what was written for starters?
munudeges wrote:The whole Raikkonen to Ferrari thing (the first time) dragged on for ages...
There were denials all round from Ferrari, McLaren and Raikkonen and his people himself until the Enzo was spotted in his garage and it transpired he had signed in mid-2005. Even at that stage everyone knew that Alonso would end up at Ferrari once Jean Todt had left, because he didn't like him.

We already know Ferrari seriously considered dropping Alonso last season until the contractual problems of doing so became clear. This isn't some stray tweet from one random person we're talking about here. It's very well known that the Alonso/Ferrari honeymoon as it was is over. The only people who don't seem to have got the memo are people around here - and then you act all surprised.

If vodafone pulled out a year early, then its likely they are still paying for next year? So it will be no financial loss to them?
