Reynolds number is idealized and dimensionless as I recall, i.e. no term for surface roughness. But I suspect that smooth gauze would afford a thicker boundary layer while a rougher iteration might serve as a vortex generator, depending on the Reynolds number.

I've always been a fan of Colani's whimsical designs - so swoopy, as if the wind shaped each curve. BUT, aside from prototypes and displays, do these cars and trucks ever see streets of the real world? Curious. Thanks for posting, reminds me of childhood.

Collani's work is fantastic and very inspiring, trucks, planes, boats have very innovative and creative lines. The only project I thought Ugly was the Lamborghini Miura LeMans Concept .

Look like concept truck for future ,but this is something as truck version K.I.T.T car from "Knight Rider".
That truck doesn't talk but can fly.In movie of course,although interesting cab was built from the Gazelle* helicopter body.Chassis from old Kenworth K100 truck. In the following years was used as mobile home.Now is restored and in this year will be as mobil ink studio "Highwayman Ink".
The "driver" Sam J.Jones had the same task like David Hasselhoff & KITT.Look at similar dashboard inside truck.
The second truck was a US "version" German Steinwinter concept truck from 1983.Original Steinwinter was little lower (117 cm only) and less "stylish".
