JB's driving style versus late apex and preserving tyres

Button's problem this weekend was that he was unable to do any long runs in practice due to his transmission problems. He wanted to try a more aggressive setup that would help him get heat into the tires for quallies, so he and his crew had to basically guess at what the log-run wear rate would be.

They guessed wrong (and it didn't help his qually anyway).

So while people said that JB's smooth rates of transition help keep the tyres in shape, others have said that the way a more aggressive tighter turning circle when the corner last for less time (even though peak singular loading might be more) makes it last longer. So which is it then?

Judging from sheer logic, I'd venture a smooth arc would hurt the tyres under thermal degradation, while a more "squared off" corner will hurt more under wear. The smooth line will hurt the tyre wear less, and the tighter line will degrade thermally less

I think Button's line is the brokenline (geometrical one) and M. Schumacher's, the purple's one.
