Ferrari 2014 Car Pre-launch Speculation

@imightbewrong

in the 2013 version of 3.7.9 the "non-structural fairing of prescribed laminate" was explicitly excepted from the hight limit
but in the 2014 version the are no exceptions

Code: Select all

3.7.9
No bodywork situated forward of the line A-A referred to Drawing 5 may extend above a
diagonal line from a point on A-A and 625mm above the reference plane to a point 50mm
rearward of the forward-most point of the impact absorbing structure defined in Article 15.4.3
and 300mm above the reference plane. No bodywork situated forward of the forward-most
point of this diagonal line may be more than 300mm above the reference plane.

With the exception of a transparent windscreen, antenna or pitot tubes, no bodywork situated
between the line A-A referred to in Drawing 5 and the secondary roll structure may lie more
than 625mm above the reference plane.

Any bodywork situated above the impact absorbing structure defined by Article 15.4.3 or
above the survival cell, and forward of the line B-B, must be of prescribed laminate, details of
this laminate may be found in the Appendix to the Technical Regulations.

Hello everyone,

I dont know if this has been mentioned before but on the ferrari youtube page there is a banner with a covered car.
I think that might be the actual 2014 car because the nose is too low and the front wing is way narrower than what it was in the old "low nosed" cars.

If my assumption is correct then we have a clear picture of what the new noses will look like.

Any thoughts? (I saw the banner in the youtube app in iOS so im not sure if you will be able to see it on a pc or android)

If it is what I saw on Offical YT of Ferrari is the same photo that we saw here couple of pages ago and that pic is more then 10 years old from F2001 presentation. Nose is low but wing is too short.

Height limits of vanity panels--

I looked into this myself and I think "hecti" and "enri_the_red" are correct. Many people have been assuming the vanity panels are allowed more vertical space than they are actually allowed.

I went to the FIA website and looked at the current 2014 Technical Regulations (posted 2013-12-09). I looked at Article 3.7.9 and Drawing 5, and they are entirely consistent with the quotes/drawings/descriptions given by hecti and enri_the_red.

The first two sub-paragraphs of 3.7.9 restrict the location of "bodywork". It's clear that vanity panels are "bodywork", therefore the first two sub-paragraphs of 3.7.9 restrict the location of vanity panels per hecti's drawing. The third sub-paragraph says any bodywork above the "impact absorbing structure" or the "survival cell" must be of "prescribed laminate", i.e. vanity-panel construction. However, the third sub-paragraph does not establish any higher limits.

So IF your impact structure and survival cell do not fill all the volume up to the vertical limits, THEN you may fill in that volume with vanity panels up to the same vertical limits. Most of the nose in front of the survival cell has the same vertical limits for vanity panels and impact structure (the exception being a small triangular area above the aft-end of the nose-cone).

I think the real 2014 noses with vanity panels will be lower than almost all the hypothetical sketches due to the consistent misunderstanding about vanity panel height.

Being a racing driver means you are racing with other people. And if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing driver because we are competing, competing to win...

Scuderia Ferrari are extremely intelligent...this is the 2003 car, they don't use just the Prancing horse inset into the original Ferrari shield anymore. (Re: Car cover)

The new Scuderia Ferrari logo is a tell tale sign that it would be current (lets face it Philip Morris created a master stroke of genius with the new logo and still being able to advertise their brand).

The first sign that we will most likely see of the new car may be 6-12 hours before the official unveiling.

P.S I just checked the voting page and F14 T and F166 TURBO are tied at 30%

Still tied? I guess it'll go down then to the absolute numerical votes. Bummer we can't see them.

Ask and you shall receive good sir (minus the actual number of votes, I think Ferrari will release the numbers when the car is revealed!), its now 29%...this now leads me to worry that there are proxy servers voting the names...

I was referring to the absolute numbers, not the relative ones in %. If it isn't rigged (I do question whether or not it's manipulated), there should be small differences there.

Come on F166 Turbo, you can do it.

What about if Ferrari and Fiat have put that nameplate up in order to help sales in Europe for the FIAT Brand? We must remember 75% of Ferrari is owned by FIAT Motor Group.

From a marketing perspective its absolute genius and leads to further advertising / possible sales due to the subliminal marketing.

I think F166 TURBO will win the contest though :)

F14T or F-ookingFast who cares what the name is? It's a Ferrari and it will have an F in it's nomencalture system, that's how it is.
iF they sell 1 more FIAT because the 2014 Ferrari is called an F14 T then Humanity is doomed to Idiocracy I tell thee.
