Mercedes F1 W05 Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

The V8 engines were the same as the preceding V10 engines, minus two cylinders. So there are at least 16 and up to 20 years of improvements which may now be newly available.

But the 700hp rumor is rubbish.
A normall race takes about 1,5 hours on average.. does this mean the may use 150kg per race?
In a race, you are not pressing the accelerator pedal the whole time. About a 20% (more or less) of the lap drivers are off the thorttle or braking

Yet even with that in mind they still require more or less 150kg during the V8 era.

And 80% on throttle isn't the average. You'll only be that much on the throttle at circuits like Monza.

I think 60% throttle is the average. And the V8's was more powerfull and less efficient.

But my question wasn't about that; it was regarding the 100kg/h which could be interpreted that in a race which takes about 1,5hours you could use 150kg..

BTW, you never press the accelerator pedal the whole time; not during the race, not during qualy and not during practice..

No. You have 2 limits: 100kg/h and you are only allowed to burn 100kg in total across the whole race.

Of course you don't press it the whole time. But when you do press it, you burn fuel. It is as simple as that.

I do understand that now, thank you

Does it have a Helmholtz chamber?

They sure haven't implied in any way the type of intercooling they might be using having they, other than that it's to the left.
