Mercedes F1 W05 Pre-launch Speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That's not exhausts. The silver one is the pipe from the compressor of the turbo. It feeds air to the intercool which is not present in the picture. The black one is the intake to the plenum.

Would it not make sense to split the pipe into two parts so that they don't need an asymmetrical body?

No. You have the normal radiator in the other side.

Might seem like a silly question but where in this configuration would the Air intake from the Roll Hoop area feed into?

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxQUM-E ... lIb1E/edit

The Silver pipe exiting the Turbo charger and the Black pipe curving to the left are assumed to be heading to the Intercooler?

Is there and Air intake element that MERC have left off of their Computer animation?

Maybe between the cylinders, where at the Renault engine the MGU-H is located. Therefore maybe the air is not coming from the roll Hoop area. Could be a reason for not showing the front of the engine in the video.

i have reason to believe this is actually how the 2014 merc will look like.

reason: because this rendering looks awesome enough that it should

I would downvote it but I'm in a good mood today. :) I think the warsteiner should be replaced by something else and I'd prefer a more yellowish gold.

I expect that teams with bigger budget (RED BULL, FERRARI, MCLAREN ,MERCEDES ) will provide us at least 15 sec video of their cars , of course rendered in best software! :?

From a rear view, don't the exhausts suggests a clockwise impeller?

If so, the silver tube to the left of the engine would be the Turbo intake, meaning both that and the standard intake would be connected to an airbox to the left of the engine with the compressor output heading to the cylinder heads....
...with intercooler pipes down the middle, & radiator elsewhere?

Looking at the rest of the layout, it can't be. It must be pipe from the turbine to intercooler (not shown) on le left as Holm86 said, but what's going on with the exhaust entering in the same corner the turbine output is coming from??
Surely that would have the turbine spinning in the wrong direction?

Random thought: a differential between the impeller and compressor as the takeoff point for the MGU could mean reverse the spindle direction in the compressor?
There's much more longitudinal depth to the Merc Turbo (in the images they've released) vs the Renault, so may there be something to that?

This is how I hoped the new cars would look. Even a more pronounced walrus type nose would have been better than the Wang-cars.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

Rosberg shakes down new Mercedes W05 at Silverstone

Nico Rosberg gave the new Mercedes W05 its first shakedown laps at Silverstone today, prior to the car’s official launch at Jerez on Tuesday morning.

Rosberg’s run was one of the first by a 2014 spec car, as Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat also gave the new Toro Rosso STR9 its first miles at Misano.

Teams are still allowed two private 100kms runs, despite the much stricter testing rules this year. They are known as ‘Promotional Events,’ and the cars have to run on special tyres provided by Pirelli. The FIA also has to be kept fully informed.
