McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Looked like an MP4-23 nose to me.

I don't think so.

Too much like the old Sauber design.

I see this as an interim year before a huge McLaren relaunch next year. The 2015 car will see new title sponsor (possibly Honda), a completely new livery, new team kit etc and we'll all be sitting here thinking "wow"

I wouldn't be shocked at all if the car design for next year has been started, including the livery
It looks nothing like Sauber, it's meant to be a throwback to this

Afaik Santander hasn't been on the car since 2008. Johnnie Walker seems to be missing though

I wonder how the absence of lower rear wing endplates will affect diffuser performance. I would hypothesize that the tire squirt will be unmitigated over the top of the diffuser, robbing downforce. And adding them later will be non-trivial as the rear leg of the upper A-arm is in the way.

I believe Santander's contract with Mclaren states that their logo to appear only on the overalls. Unless of course they 'upgrade' their sponsorship package, for logos to appear on the car. Just like Fedex between 07-08 season.

Quoted from Federal Express:
"FedEx Express and the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Team were both built on the same set of values: leadership, teamwork, integrity, and a commitment to "be the best". The proposed arrangement entitles FedEx to prominently display its logo on the collar of the team's drivers overalls making it visible to a world-wide monitored audience of 2.75 billion viewers."
Iirc Santander never left Mclaren. They just poured more money to Ferrari because of Alonso

Is it possible that McLaren were working on a part from an old car?? Maybe stripping it down ready to apply the new livery to use it as a showcar or something??

Just thinking that the black carbon nose there looks a lot like the nose from the MP4-22...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tip of the nose doesn't seem to follow contour behind it, that wasn't the case with any of the noses from that period of time...

I don't think this is the final rear wing, the render is very different.

Yup.
Looks very much like it.
Maybe just an older sequence in the clip?

To me the pylons look to high for the 2014 regs.
This nose looks rather as if it was made for a 625mm AA line bulkhead.

The split line on the exposed starboard floor is interesting - unusual. The wire for the IR sensor seems much better integrated on the outer side of the split line, suggesting there is a previuos / next version of the floor in which the split could be the beginning of teh radius between floor and sidepod, a la redbull
