McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Does anyone know if McLaren have said this is going to be their actual livery for the season, or just for launch and pre-season testing. Its just there's barely any sponsors on it when you consider the number of sponsors they actually have. See the list of 'partners' they on the link below:

they haven't said. But if you take last years car and remove all the vodafone stuff I think it would look pretty similar (sponsorship-wise). They're not going to promote their other sponsors to prime real estate like the nose or side pods without getting something more in return.

Oh that's good. Please oh please I hope that's what it looks like next year.

I like how the front is disguised by leaving the wide area black carbon.

That's looking a bit too old and boring to me. The silver and red is just fine; or even McLaren orange.

That looks so much better, especially the nose section...

Leave the bare carbon parts just like that and paint the rest in McLaren's Volcano Orange and we are set for one of the most beautiful F1 cars in history.

They went the same route with a middle rounded nose cone, like W04, in order to route the airflow underneath towards the T-tray and rear end, all together with a little help of the turning vanes attached under the nose? ...

This?

Looks to me like one of those speculation MCD pictures... Just need to find it... There it is.

Already said that looks like the MP4-22 nose

It has a notch in the top which lines up with the chassis of the MP4-22. This notch wouldn't line up anywhere on the MP4-29.
You are quite right. That table is for tours to the MTC. Its just full of old parts for people to pick up and have a good play with that is def old nose!

It's nice to finally see some actual images of the 2014 cars, but I'm guessing that many of the elements drawing the most comments are going to be changed by the last test days (certainly by the first race), so I'm not going to be concerned at this point.

I would like to know if anybody has lined up the MP4-28 and MP4-29 to analyse whether or not McLaren had increased the rake.

Yeah, it's that useless it's been explicitly banned by the regs for decades....seriously, just re-read what you wrote and hang your head in shame.

And it's unsprung mass you need to worry about for suspension performance, 'unsprung weight' isn't a bad thing...
Hang my head in shame! You should learn to read properly. I didn't say unsprung weight or downforce is bad. I merely commented that downforce directly pushing onto the suspension arms won't increase the downforce.
I have been a member of this forum for many years and stopped using it because of comments from frustrated arm chair engineers like this. This forum is for opinions and for you to respond with personal comments like this ruins it.

You wouldn't gain anything by directly pushing on the suspension.
See above.
You expressed as fact something that wasn't, that's what ruins these forums as it stops people who've come here to learn from doing so.
If you have an opinion or theory, explain it as such, don't state it as fact when it's not.

that chevron livery doesn't fit the car at all. moreover, it's Marlboro, so it's never, ever going to happen. except for maybe a Ferrari... that would be interesting.
