Ferrari F14T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Makes you realise just how much Mclaren is valuing front suspension/tyre management this year rather than the aero benefit of the higher wishbones - wonder how that will work out given the tyres are supposedly much more robust this year.

So, bad aproach or good aproach by Mp4-29 compared to F14T?

3rd consecutive year Ferrari opting for that kind of radiator exits..I just dont like them..I think it was the main reasson for the aerodynamic problems Ferrari had the past few years ..The rest of the car boodywork/packaging looks promising to me..

The still doesn't show the real width of the gap but few stills later you can really appreciate when in angle that it might be the Lotus style nose

I saw that the first time I watched it through, just had another look. Maybe it is the shape of the current crash structure without the vanity panel/fairing? A double prong but it doesnt look asymetrical so requires the vanity panel to meet regs. Maybe we could see Ferrari try out a Lotus type nose if theirs is that close underneath.

Have you actually looked at the two designs & compared them?

The McLaren isn't going to much more air under than the F14 T. And the Ferrari nose seems quite rounded to help facilitate air under front bulkhead along with help from camera pods. Armchair aero isn't going to tell us how good this nose is or isn't compared to other designs.

No way that's a lotus style nose. Clearly a cockpit surround.

It might be a cockpit surround. But for ants.

to me, McLaren's nose looks just as rounded, if not more so, than Ferrari.

Would be interesting to compare those two at the same scale. Sidepod inlet area between the two, looks like Ferrari's is much more closed up. Could be the scale screwing with my eyes though.
Grip is a four letter word. All opinions are my own and not those of current or previous employers.

Some sort of aero purpouse of the rear-suspension, something like on the Mclaren, but slightly different.

Hmmm... small sidepods, their engine could possibly have less power than the Mercedes.

Its shown at 1:30 on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... WhHDwPI4Z0

I suspect its the mould for the rear wing support.
