Wikipedia is sadly mostly garbage when it comes to F1 - fanatics and marketing departments. OT but funny: do you think there was a famous "McLaren spy gate"? Nope - it was "2007 Formula One espionage controversy" that included: "2.1 Allegations against Stepney 2.2 Allegations against Mike Coughlan 2.3 Allegations against Renault F1 2.4 FIA investigation". No McLaren name at all in the table of content and in the title, two blokes and the other F1 team instead (how?), no stealing, lying and corporate espionage by McLaren, remarkable! Add "controversy" to further dilute and manipulate.acosmichippo wrote:There should be sources listed for claims like that, so I put a [citation needed] tag on it.adrianjordan wrote:Since anyone can edit wikipedia I would take that with a whole packet of salt...F1NAC wrote:I don't know if someone checked but Wikipedia says that designer of F14 T is Rory Byrne
No you can't see inside for the rear, in the picture you posted all it shows is gets darker towards the bottom, that's just lighting, you can't actually see inside the engine cover, it's just the channels / ramps that are drawing air down & into the cover to feed something.Mr.G wrote:Because on the Ferrari you looking on par which is under an angle but looks like it's flat. Look at the picture taken from behind the F14 T and you can see inside the engine cover, so it must be outlet.
Agreed. The opening on the Ferrari looks like an inlet, not an outlet.hollowBallistix wrote:http://www.newsf1.it/wp-content/uploads ... errari.jpg
I'm failing to see how some are of the conclusion that this is an "outlet" ?
The air will flow from the right side of the picture towards the left once the car is in motion, and you can see the openings with channels that will allow air in, not out.
Sorry but i think it will not flow like the green path. Your first thought seems to be right (pink line). To me.Mr.G wrote:Taken from the 3D video. I don't know if you can force the flow to go by the pink line without any scoop like Sauber has. It will more likely flow by the green path.

I'm not sure what your ultimate point is, but from your quote, I'd say the "designer" credit should probably go to the chief designer Tombazis, not Byrne.iotar__ wrote:Wikipedia is sadly mostly garbage when it comes to F1 - fanatics and marketing departments. Going back to Byrne, how about Ferrari itself for a source?
"Ferrari said Byrne, [...], would provide "operational support" to the design team" "Byrne is working as part of a team led by chief designer Nikolas Tombazis under technical director Pat Fry. The co-ordinator of the 2014 car under Tombazis is Italian Fabio Montecchi."
Old article, from 1 year ago - http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula-one/21411177 - Fry has a different role but they can't change designer backwards in time, someone had to "design" the damn thing at the time . I'd say apart from "operational support" Byrne provides strong "marketing support" as a throwback to good old times and proof they're doing everything they can. BTW remember magic floor in 2012?
sure it would, but the question is efficiency I think. an inlet like that would not draw in as much air as sauber's design, I think. I agree with Mr. G that it looks more like an outlet.miguelalvesreis wrote:Mr.G wrote:Taken from the 3D video. Why not? Try opening your car's window! Do you have any scoop on it? No? And the air comes inside?
Try it open just a little like this (about 2-3 cm) and hold a cigarette near the opening and let me know if the smoke is pushed into your car or sucked out...miguelalvesreis wrote:Mr.G wrote:Taken from the 3D video.
