Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So the rear wing is supported in the middle and at the edges. None of the others are like that are they? Very slender mounting points.

The front suspension lower wishbones are a piece of art, they seem to be trying to get them back out of the way, maybe to allow air to flow from on top of the nose and round under the winglets.

Some double difffuser magic going on in the middle.

But that packaging... it's by far the tightest car at the back, and even without so much bulging up the sidepods.

Gurney flap over diffuser, and the slot seems to be combined with the strake in the middle. Sorry if I can't describe it better but seems interesting

I'm a bit concerned about the strength of these really slim pylons holding up the front wing.

Oh my god... How did they manage to tighten up that rear end and pretty much disguising the outlets compared to for example the Mclaren with two massive cannons at the back?

This might be a Red Bull killer :) Looks beautiful, especially that super aggressive front wing sending lots of air around the tire.

Where´s the outlets? :)

Outlets seems to be before the rear suspensions. They look to be in black color...

Correct. I also think there may be a large exit ahead of the diffuser.

i think Mercedes has gone agressive, mclaren very conservative on cooling, im sure mclaren version will be slimmed during testing, but the merc is extremely impressive, and im sure every team is within a few days having a similar concept frontwing to merc tested with cfd

It takes a week alone to construct a front wing, let alone designing it and suiting it for your car.

It looks very slippery. They seem to have been able to drape the bodywork directly over the power unit. Would I be right in saying that the bulge in the bodywork just above and infront of the petronas logo at the rear is for the turbo?

Mercedes works team seem to have a much tighter packaging and less engine cooling outlets than any other Merc team.

You dont reckon they told the other teams you need X amount of cooling going well above what they in-fact need?

Why would they do this?

1) Less work fixing broken engines in-case teams go too aggressive.

2) They wanted to steal a march on the other Merc teams and didnt want them to know straight away how good the engine was with cooling needs etc?

just a thought :D

Exactly what I thought
