A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
amazing looking machine. looks very very clean and simple, and surprised at the lack of monkeyseat and 'wings'.
i assume, but that's just from dry air, that there will be a monkeyseat and additional pieces on quite soon.
if not, then this car might have a very clean flow and a balanced mechanical grip which might make it very easy
on the tires.
nose and wing look seriously advanced and both sidepods and engine cover looks very sleek. very skinny.
the tail of the car looks superiorly clean and simple, loads of area for development. but then it looks so clean it might
just be meant to be like that. really looking forward to see what it does on track.
diffuser looks very interesting and the rear wing endplates are almost like a shark. gorgeous.
i think this is the cleanest and most beautifull car of them all. kudos and applause to the mercedes team.
weird to see tires without pirelli on them btw.
this car proves you can have a beautifull car with the rules.

What do we think those vents / inlets are on the top rear bodywork near the bottom of the fin ? Are they there to direct a stream of air up towards the bottom of the wing ?
+2. only point of comment i can think of is that it would be better if the 'winglets' for the camera would be black carbon instead of silvery/chromish
and that the driver number should be mounted a bit lower ina red square, preferably a tad tilted. that's all and it's just livery/paintwork.
am i correct that the silver of this years merc looks more chromish then before or is that just optical illusion?

It's the stupid engine cover fade that messes up a good livery. If it was all black it would look mean. And the camera mounts would look better black I think.
As for the car, do we know anything about the cooling, in regards to the tight packaging? I am interested to know if these rumors about Merc collaborating with an American company for slimmer radiators are true. Of course these are old rumors from about a year ago, and nothing has been heard ever since.

so merc essentially has a double woodpecker aswell?
same as the lotus yet with a vanity panel covering the shorter one and a panel above it to direct air.
perhaps lotus will follow this route?
thanks for the info somers, i didn't even notice that.
