Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Don't think this car is getting run anymore again today. A big crash there.

Hamilton has had a bit of a crash.....appears to be a front wing failure or at least the front wing has sheared off during the collision.
Someone commented earlier about the mounting section of the wing...

You jinxed the car :x :D

They are done today, but for us the day has really started! If more pictures arrive from the broken nose pieces, we could determine the complex nose assembly.

Not a good way to start; reminds me of last year where he had a brake failure..

Nothing wrong with the concept, it's been used extensively before. This particular implementation may have a problem and will need refining, but that's a different story.

Not the best way to end the day, no. But at least they've had a fair run so far today and a structural failure of a front wing is, in the scheme of things, a pretty minor engineering challenge to fix. Given that other teams have yet to even hit the track I wouldn't be too downbeat yet.

It looks like Wing doesn't come off from where it was attached to pylons. Something Else happened. Pylons are still attached to
the broken wing lying on the circuit.

Everyone on the ground is saying the front wing snapped way before the breaking zone?

But if all their FW have the same mounting specification it could be a problem that you just can't resolve in 24 hours, you need a new one from factory..

You can see a massive flatspot on the front right, so I'd guess the FW was not in place at some point during braking.

I wonder if the front cameras were running.... ...are they normally self contained, or do they feed a central transmitter?
If it's the later if guess they were just blanks as there's no sign of cables.
