Mercedes AMG F1 W05

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

We're speculating now but if they do need to make structural changes then yes that is going to take at least a week to get a new one built plus whatever design time is needed. That said the teams do have various options open to them to add some strength to the existing wings by building upon the existing structure. Not the best aerodynamic solution but it will get them back out on track.

not pretty i know, but if the mount is the problem and its too weak could they not bodge it to give it some strength for the time being? as if all the front wings have the same weakness i fear it could rule them out of this test full stop. Think it will take a little longer than 24 hours to make and then transport new front wings.

Fingers crossed it was just a one off faulty front wing. If indeed that is what went wrong!

Another shot of what looks like a double-decker diffuser:

It's clearly not. Just another creative starter motor hole.

My mistake! Just looked at the 2009 cars for comparison and it's clearly a different concept. Jeez, I'd forgotten how extreme those 2009 diffusers were…

Where the hell are the hot air exits on this car? By far the tidiest rear end of any of the cars.

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but I've just noticed, is this the first car without a monkey seat?

Exactly that. I think they are trying to be creative though with the air coming from the engine the cooling outlets. The diffuser has elements of those double deck diffuser days.

BTW confirmed front wing failure

If those are the only cooling outlets, then surely a huge load of heat has to exit through those. Looks perfect for sealing the diffuser.

Mercedes confirmed that Lewis hamilton accident was caused by a faillure in the front wing.

Right before the rear wishbone, were every car except the RB10 has it.

new sidepod arrangement which brings the cooling outlets further outboard.
