Ferrari F14T

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

can someone elaborate?
It has a very curved and rounded Gurney flap over the trailing edge of the diffuser, as well as interesting V shape in the middle of the diffuser. The vertical strakes are pretty much the same as last year.

Just confirming is all. No one officially said that it was the new formula1 engine in the LaFerrari test mule.

Someone have an idea why Ferrari is using only 4 elements on their front wing?

It's interesting. There's been a suggestion that if you're trying to create downforce at the front with the low nose - ala Ferrari and Merc - you must be pretty confident you're getting enough at the rear to balance it out.

Maybe whatever solutions they have mean they're not having to work as hard with the front wing to get the air to the diffuser - remember the pre-2009 front wings were far simpler with that huge rear wing.

They typically start the season with the most basic FW packaje. At least I remember that from other seasons.

Time for the annual reminder that the car threads are for examining the actual features of the car. If the comment doesn’t relate to an observation of an actual detail on the car then it doesn’t belong in this thread.

For the avoidance of doubt, here are some examples:

  • Whitmarsh, Vettel, and Boullier are not features on any car.
  • References to laptimes belong in the relevant test or race thread.
  • Seriously, there is nothing new to say about genitals, gaping fish, or monkeys with big noses. It’s all been said already. We don’t need endless reminders.
  • Soft focus effects belong in wedding albums, not technical posts.
  • “I love this team” or “the TP must be sacked” are fanboy posts
  • Links to a blog are OK as long if you make constructive objective posts here. Otherwise its just spam.

Finally, if you do see posts that are out of order then please report them so they can be dealt with appropriately.

A better view of the flow vis, it does seem as though the air flows around the nose more than it does over the nose.

What would you ideally want to see with the flow-vis? Around or over?

The flow patterns seem expected, even at this early stage of testing, as with no doubt, this solution is already test-driven at the wind tunnel.

You would have to take that question to Ferrari my friend, they´re the ones who know how to answer that...

Are the decals actually changing the air flow, or just the way the flow viz sticks to the nose?
