McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

So they made two superposed 'Blonchimont bells'' out of the upper wishbones ?
Using 'Blanchimonts bell' shape I think the rear suspension is laid out a bit like this simple diagram. With the rear parts being able to be bolted on or off the wishbone(shown in a picture above by gandharva) and being asymmetrical(longer section between the arms, how that would work with the rules is beyond me.
I don't think they open up or move(in relation to the suspension arm), I think they create downforce onto the rear suspension and produce a low pressure zone behind which the air from the diffuser is 'attracted' to, not the right terms I know but I am in an armchair.

Don't know what to make out of it, honestly...
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Just noticed there is no visible weave in the material used for the rear floor. Surely they wouldn't waste time/weight painting the floor? I know it isn't but it looks like bakelite. LOL!

this pic makes their cross section look almost square, with rounded corners. not bell shaped.

They're bolted on too - I cannot see that being a permanent piece of the suspension arm. If they are sensors, then for what? Temperature or stress? They have a big influemce on teh aero, so I think that can be ruled out... :?:

I´m almost sure those are some sensors wrapped around the suspension arms, maybe for vibration, or something like that... You can see the taped wiring so characteristic of sensors, on the crash structure.

These are the suspension arms placed vertically instead of horizontally. What they try to achieve is a mystery though.

No, its not, its something wrapped around the arms. Suspension arms are not thick squarish things held together with bolts...

I'm going with sensors too.

Looks like some kind of measuring device for me.

Scarbs mentioned they are placed vertically. I came to the same conclusion because of the general shape.. They do look bulbuous, but better pictures are needed to say anything conclusive.
