Simple, if the championship becomes dominated by any driver, just triple or quadruple or whatever is necessary to keep the money flowing, or the interest like some say.

I'm yet to see an online poll that has a favorable results for the rule. An apparent ignore of fans opinion by the powers-that-be.

P.S. Someone along the thread gave the best idea i've read so far. If this atrocity defines the champion, the fair thing to do is to congratulate the champion in terms of race distance.

Bernie wants double points at the final race (and possibly the two before it) to increase TV viewership of late races in the season. I propose an easy solution to this.

Seriously, it's easy to get this rule gone – simply boycott any double points race, with a large enough following, this would defeat the entire purpose of double points. Anyone with me?

Yes, Boycotting something solves the problem most of the time And I am with you. BUT!!! it is ALMOST impossible to happen. People are going to get tickets for the race let alone watching on TV. Enthusiasts, like most of us on this forum, we want to see PROPER racing but there are millions who don't understand the sports much and will watch the race anyway just for fun and watching some overtakes without any idea of what's actually happening.

But I am fully aware that right now, it is a very sensitive issue for the teams, and Bernie requires unanimous support for this to be enacted.

I do want to watch the racing. But I am just one small voice among many. But if enough people speak up, the teams will be aware of it. They may not know me, but I am sure that some representative will pass along the message .. that certain people in certain forums are up in arms against this change.

To the teams and sponsors of Formula One: I am a working person with an income. Because of my love and loyalty to this wonderful sport, I have purchased many products from Formula One sponsors. But if you bow down on this issue, I will turn on you and boycott your products.

In slightly more seriousness, it's a silly rule, but Bernie has gotten away with much worse. It's really not something worth instigating a boycott over.

That said though, I probably won't watch the race anyways because Abu Dhabi is boring, and more about flaunting oil money than anything else. The forced excitement won't last.

Which will never happen. There will be plenty of posts from people insisting they won't watch the double points race(s), and then the same people commenting on that controversial stewards decision after the race they definitely didn't watch.

Luca di Montezemolo agreed behind closed doors that the controversial 'double points' innovation is necessary for Formula One.
That is the claim of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, despite Ferrari president Montezemolo having claimed on record that he is opposed to the unpopular idea.
"It's too artificial," the Italian said recently. "I would not be surprised if the rule is soon abolished."
However, Ecclestone has told F1 business journalist Christian Sylt this week that the 'double points' concept was designed specifically to help the sport's most famous team.
"He (Montezemolo) was talking about it and I said 'It is very simple why we got that (double points rule)'," Ecclestone is quoted by City A.M.
"'It is because you (Ferrari) aren't performing'," the 83-year-old recalled telling Montezemolo.
"'If you were doing what you should be doing there wouldn't be any need for it'. He (Montezemolo) said 'I know, I know'," Ecclestone added.
