Re: How is the forum rating system doing?

Post

As we've said before, the number of downvotes is tiny compared to the up votes. Also, we are all human so it is inevitable that there will always be odd or questionable individual votes, so we're talking about a small selection of a small number of votes.

In most cases the aggregate result is usually about right. For example a post that attracts an unusual down vote will usually get a subsequent upvote from a member who thinks "hang on a second, that post is correct". The end result is a neutral outcome.

On that basis, should this be downvoted?
Well, I think the post is correct.

So, no.

But even if the info is wrong, it's not like the poster was saying he's seen the drawings and this is how it is. He just said, "maybe it's like this..."

'Wrong", in the sense that Richard is talking about, would be someone stating something as fact when they really have no clue. So, if I were to say "It's been proven that wind is created by the motion of leaves on trees", then you'd probably want to vote that down. That's different from someone saying "maybe it's like this...", or "it could be that...", or even "I think..."

I think. :P

And this number will be growing as more people receive the ability to downvote.

Not to mention it works both ways. Upvotes are just as well 'misused' as downvotes are.

I don't know who posted the image of the 'finger nose' first, but that post had 17 upvotes at one point. I think that one was a clear indication of how the voting system does not work as intended. It was upvoted because people thought it was funny, not because it added something to the discussion.

If members need to correct each others votes because someone wrongly used it then it is clear the system isn't working as intended.

How can I find my down voted post(s)?
Because all of a sudden I am -2.. and I don't understand why?

a few things I would really like added to the system:

- an easy way to view posts of yours that have been voted on (either up or down)
- an easy way to view posts that you have voted on
- the ability to "undo" votes. Since we get a limited amount, it would be nice to be able to take a vote from a post I had voted on, and apply it to another I find better.

1.Looking at your received votes: scroll above -> username -> click on number of votes.
2.Looking at given votes: scroll above -> username -> click on "view my votes"
3. Undoing votes (limited in time, so be quick with it): Go to the post you voted on, click on the vote, then click on the small cross.

For 3 you can also go to your user name at the very top of the page, right from the F1T logo, which is a pull down menu. Then click on "view my votes", as for 2. There, recent votes made by you will have a cancel button to the right side.

That's what I meant on how to cancel (Undo) a vote you made recently.

Interestingly, I did not vote at 10:06, 10:07 or 10:11PM. Is there something broken, Tomba? Or maybe they are just posts that I voted on some time ago but now someone voted on them and altered their score?

You might want to explain me how that post was in any way useful and undeserving of it's rating. And yes, I was one of those who downvoted that post. I don't think it needs any explanation as to why I downvoted it.

It is self explanatory... perhaps for persons with maybe Asperger's syndrome it is not.
But for your info, it was a joke..(perhaps you overlooked the  ..) due to Hamilton's previous pre-season test-crashes; this year and last year.

The remark about the Ferrari guys was based on the picture, you could see the mechanicals looking at the Mercedes..

Now if you would be so kind to explain your need to downvote, I would very much appriciate that.
Thanks in advance! :wtf:

Ps.
I just read your opening post in this topic
and it just became crystal clear for me... you're way to serious

This system is a joke. I'm just going to post high res pictures from now on to get upvotes. Forget actually trying to join in on the discussion. Lets just accept everything everyone says as fact from now on.
