"Emergency", a bit sensationalist? Maybe they were to meet anyway, would it be called emergency if RB was running without problems? Maybe that's why they're in trouble - sending Marko to explain technical problems, BTW picture nicely explains Red Bull's team principal position.

Why no other Renault teams present and who's the third guy?

Maybe this is the reason for the meeting
Craig Scarborough has reported new information on this Renault problem on the Pit Stop Radio Show podcast on Monday evening.

@ minute 14:17, after discussing the ES problem briefly, Craig then says the big problem is in the ERS-K system. He said the ERS-K was apparently bringing its power in too quickly back to the ICE mainshaft, causing failure in the ERS-K, and the crankcase itself. He said there is a fundamental problem with the shaft of the ERS-K. Consequently, they now have a big redesign.

"For the rest of testing, they're going to have to without full ERS power... There is also some debate as to whether this part will be ready for Melbourne as well. So potentially for some of the first races the Renault engines could be handicapped because of this problem with this motor generator."

That is the fourth person to report some information on this same problem... First the Judge from the Jerez paddock reported it directly, then Rob White of Renault Sport F1 alluded to this in his interview of Jan 31st, Gian Carlo Minardi's own article of Feb 13th had an obtuse reference to this, and now this Scarborough podcast interview describes it more directly

FYI on that "F1 cars slower then GP2" speculation:

Pole Position in the GP2 2013: 1:39.427
Already in F1 *testing first day* 2014: 1m37.908s

I think we can put that - already spurious - claim to bed.

Timing from side F1tests works? I cannot found it? I hope they could get access to the test data.. :( In Jerez they couldn't.

Incredible pace setting by mercedes. Went from the fastest lap to consistently 1m40s-1m41s and now back to 1m39s-1m40s. Now on a cooldown lap.

Cool , sounds like the closest explanation to reality about Renault's problems yet.

Close enough but that's not exactly what was reported - what was reported was 20 weeks (? I don't remember exactly) to "fully fix" their problems. Now what's left is "doubts" about solution for Melbourne and again we'll see. It was always serious enough to be a huge setback (now they can't run at 100%) even at best case scenario but not dramatic enough for some - changing supplier and Silverstone fix as alternatives.

It's up to you who was closer - Renault explanations about fixable solution (but without details) and generally ERS and the rest of the system working together causing problems or "batch of faulty crankshafts for test engines". "Some information" is just about right.

They are atleast running on a somewhat competitive level. Vettel headed out and topped already the renault teams.

It is no big surprise that it does not concern the Renault ICE. The MGU-K mechanics are a more likely candidate for Renault to screw up. It is not exactly one of their core competencies. Not a nice problem to have, but something that may be curable in a sensible time frame.

According to AMUS Verttel did 5 laps.
