Who cares if he was on softs or not #-o ?

BTW good to see we learned that cars have tyres, hot topic of recent seasons got lost in all the engine drama. They are harder (too hard?) and more consistent according to Sutil. One stoppers on fuel saving and hold position, 50% rate of reliability - classic, true racing in 2014.

That's still 1.4s adrift of his former team-mate Lewis Hamilton's time of course, and Mercedes have just confirmed to us, for the avoidance of doubt, that his benchmark 1:34.263 effort was set on the soft tyres.

During his recent run of McLaren with Super Soft was underway (1.34.976 for button was on the supersoft). We now also have confirmation from Pirelli that Hamilton this morning has turned his best time (1.34.263) with the slightly harder soft tires.

Irvine:"If you don't have a good car you can't win it, unless you are Michael or Senna. Lots of guys won in Adrian Newey's cars, big deal. Adrian is the real genius out there, there is Senna, there is Michael and there is Newey. They were the three great talents."

So in theory on SS Mercedes could get into the low 33s

I actually think they are very close. It's not all dialled in yet, the engine isn't running to max power yet as confirmed by hamilton on Monday. The drivers will get better and every team will have a new spec for Australia for aero.

I think we arrived at the point that they run the engines now on full power. After all, they did start working on set up. You want to have accurate info on that, so probably full power from the unit.

So which car is faster? for both cases:
a) Qualy mode
b) Race mode
It's 4MJ per lap from the ERS to the mgu-k, rate limited at 120 kW. The mgu-h straight to the mgu-k is not limited by energy, and only limited by the 120 kW mgu-k, so it is possible for them to use more than 4MJ of electric energy per lap.
No, it's not. MGU-H can only assist MGU-K until 4MJ have been used. It can't boost the engine on it's own. That's because only MGU-K can put the power back into the drive and MGU-K is limited in this on 4MJ. After that MGU-H starts to charge up the ES.

Cold fusion is correct, MGU-h direct to MGU-k power transfer is unlimited. The limit refers to power coming from the battery only.

Mercedes are looking very strong in this test.

Autosport Live report:
Hamilton, Massa and Ericsson are all pounding round at the moment, but there are no particularly eye-catching laptimes out there.
They just don't get it! These are the very times that are the most important! The consistency of times on long runs and the tyres they are using is the very thing that can give us a clue as to how our team is faring. Denying us fans clues to the teams relative performance in testing is a heinous and unnecessary crime. The teams have all the data and know so much about how the teams are performing relative to one another. Why freeze us out?!!
