McLaren MP4-29 Mercedes

Which parts of the car do you think McLaren need to improve on, performance wise compared to the rest of the field?

Pretty difficult to say :D ...

Areas to work may include braking stability (brake-by-wire at the rear), getting traction out of corners with their particular rear suspension, front wing (as they have to move downforce to the rear), nose (they're working on a higher performance nose as I know), shrinking the sidepods to increase rear downforce

I can't understand why Mclaren is so conservative witht he sidepods and all the cooling system of the car. Everything is much bigger than you see on most of other Mercedes powered cars. With the same engine, Mercedes have slimer sidepods and everything is much tidy. What do you think? Will they have a revised package with slimer sidepods for the last two days in Bahrain (1 and 2 March) when we should see the final Australia package, or they will conitinue with this bigger sidepods? They can gain some downforce and efficiency by reducing those sidepods.

I suspect visually the 29 will change in a lot of areas between now and 16 March, some of that next week and some more during the race weekend its self.

However I think before we really see McLaren really competitive I believe some long term work is need on how to run the front of the car lower as they really seem to have suffered a lot since the rules were tightened to stop the front wing flexing. Mercedes have their FRIC suspension and Red Bull seem to do a good job her too (flexing t-tray somehow?), I believe this is the area where we see McLaren loosing out in terms of performance

I don't see it as conservative, it's just a different shape. And it has a big undercut. The sleekest looking car.

Yes, different. was definitely carbon yesterday. Lots of detail changes being tried. Good signs for McLaren.

Any news about mp4-29 problems in the last one hour and a half of the test, because Jenson remained at only 66 laps and didn't get out of the garage?

It is curious those marked with the yellow arrow (sorry I don't know the name) https://www.dropbox.com/s/6vwidg986i1rk9d/jhhQrdw.jpg
are more vertically and higher compared with the other RW teams,
I guess the mushroom suspension have something to do with it
